We arrived at Budapest Nyugati Railway Station early in the morning, initially planning to have breakfast at the nearby McDonald's, reputed to be the most beautiful in Budapest. Unfortunately, it was temporarily closed, and it's unclear when it will reopen. Budapest Nyugati is one of the major train stations in Hungary's capital, but compared to other capital city stations, it is not very large.
When we arrived, we wanted to buy transportation tickets. We spent quite a while figuring out the yellow machines near the exit, only to realize that tickets are not sold there. Instead, they need to be purchased from the purple machines at the tram station outside. Clearer English signage would have been very helpful. The station's facilities are limited, with not many food outlets or restrooms, so travelers should prepare in advance. Notably, the station's architectural style carries a sense of history, providing a rich European atmosphere.
The area around Budapest Nyugati has many tourist attractions, such as the famous Heroes' Square and City Park, both within walking distance. This makes the station an ideal starting point for exploring Budapest. Additionally, there are several hotels and guesthouses nearby, providing convenient accommodation for travelers.
Overall, while Budapest Nyugati Railway Station is not large, it serves its role as a transportation hub effectively. Improved clarity in information for non-local travelers would enhance...

Read moreThe station is wide and big. And maybe the building itself is old, so the atmosphere is a little creepy. Nevertheless, thanks to an elderly employee in a navy blue uniform, the good memories here are still lingering for months.
I couldn't book tickets in advance, so I didn't even know where to buy the tickets, so I asked staff at the door in English. He told me in Hungarian, but I didn't get it, so I just thanked him and I went to the machine right in front of me and pressed this and that. He came up to me and took me to the ticket booth, which was a long way away. It's early in the morning, so the ticket booth isn't open yet, so he kindly informed me of the time to ticket booth. When it's time to open the ticket booth, he came back to me and told me to buy the ticket. I should have asked him his name. He went right back, so I couldn't say thank you to him.
I'm really thankful that he showed kindness to me, a foreigner who doesn't speak a hungarian, even though his legs seemed a little...
