I was staying in Budapest for a few days in August for the Sziget festival with a friend. This is generally a perfectly fine hostel - the dorm rooms are clean and spacious, the bathrooms are decent, and the kitchen is very good. Free computer use and wifi in all the rooms. Not a party hostel, but very easy to meet people. The beds are already made up when you arrive, and each bed comes with its own sizeable locker.||||I do have a few complaints though: The hostel was advertised as having air conditioning, and I chose it over a number of cheaper alternatives for this very reason (having been to Budapest before and knowing how hot it can get). When I arrived I was dismayed to find the air con consisted of a single table fan in each room, and ours was broken anyway. Fortunately it wasn't that hot during our stay but I imagine would be pretty uncomfortable in a heatwave!||||The bed linen was perfectly clean but I was also disappointed to find the bedsheet I was given was too small to fit the bed, leaving part of the mattress exposed. ||||The showers were fine, if not especially powerful (and there are power sockets in the bathrooms which I always like). Only thing is you should take a large towel with you as there's no privacy when you come out the shower and the bathrooms are mixed. ||||While most members of staff were incredibly friendly and polite - one in particular went out of her way to be helpful - I did have one very disappointing experience on my last day. I had hoped to leave my suitcase at the hostel as my flight home wasn't until the early hours of the next day.||||I was told the cost to leave my case at reception until midnight was 1000Huf (about £2.50) - fine. When I mentioned I might be about half an hour later than midnight as I was returning from Sziget, I was told I would be charged another night - £2000Huf. As I thought this was a bit ridiculous, I declined to leave my case at reception, and returned to the dorm. One friend who was staying another night at the hostel kindly offered to keep the case in her locker, but the dark haired woman at reception immediately came round to tell us this wasn't allowed, I would have to pay to leave it at reception. I instead left my case on my friend's bed. ||||Unbelievably, when we returned later that night, we found the staff member had been through my friend's bed, removed the case and kept it at reception. They then demanded 1000Huf from me at the desk to get my case back - when I had to leave to catch a flight in a few hours. With no choice, I paid up and left.||||I have stayed in dozens of hostels over many years, and I have never experienced anything like this. I don't object to having to pay to leave my case, although the majority of hostels keep it for free. But not allowing me to leave it with a friend is ridiculous, and following me round the hostel and going through my friend's bed was downright disgraceful. ||||A disappointing experience to end what was otherwise a perfectly...
Read moreI stayed at the interflat hostel for 3 out of the 6 nights I was supposed to be there.
I was put in a bed the first night and woke up with a few bites on my arms, legs, and feet. I thought they were mosquito bites because my bed was by the window and it was kept open that night. Went about my day and all seemed normal and fine. Went to bed the second night and woke up with a couple more bites on my body that seemed to resemble the patterns made by bed bugs. I went to the front desk and told the guy there that I thought my bed may have bed bugs because of the way the bites looked and so on (think he may be an owner not sure though). He looked at me and said with 100% confidence that those bites on my body were definitely mosquito bites even though I had mentioned before that the bites were in a line (which is how one differentiates bed bug bites from other bites). So instead of getting up and just checking the room that has 12 beds that we're in danger of having bed bugs in them, he sat there and stood his ground. He moved me to a different bed upon request and all seemed okay. Got to bed later that night and woke up the next morning to maybe 50 more bites all over my body, and my brother showing me 2 pictures that he had taken of bed bugs in his bed and in my cousins bed. If my bites weren't enough we now had pictures to prove it. Went to the front desk and told the 2 people working there everything and showed the pictures and my bites. They got on the phone with the guy who I had previously spoken to and my brother talked to him and told him everything. The man preceded to get angry and raise his voice at my brother and blame us for bringing in the bugs (mind this being our first stop of our travels). My brother was able to get our money back for the 3 nights that we had then decided to not stay there anymore. He also asked the guy what he planned to do about the room and the guy said he wasnt going to do anything, if someone else gets bites they can deal with it themselves. It wasn't until about 30 minutes later, his staff must have convinced him to get an exterminator.
He could have easily avoided my family and myself from staying in that room for another night by simply getting out of his chair and doing a thorough check of all the mattresses in our room. This guy just flat out sucks. He was incredibly selfish and careless and just wanted our money, he didn't care about anyone's health at all. I would never recommend this hostel to anyone. It's the worst hostel I have ever stayed in.
I am currently still in Budapest, bedridden at a different hostel, due to an allergic reaction to some of the bites on my body.
All the other staff were super helpful and nice. But don't waste your time at this hostel, it's dirty and is ran terribly with...
