Akademia Italia Budapest — Restaurant in Budapest

Food is top quality and the restaurant is beautiful. Unfortunately the horrible service ruins it all. We went there with my girlfriend and tried to tell someone that we have a reservation and we would like to have a table. After standing around awkwardly for a few minutes and trying to signal to someone with no response, a supposed waitress took us to our table. The restaurant was running at roughly 50% occupancy, it was not busy at all. Yet no one seemed to notice us to take our order for a good 20 minutes. After we ordered a few drinks, a starter to share and the mains at the same time, they suddenly forgot about us again. We had been sitting there for an hour and our mains were nowhere to be found. After finally receiving the (otherwise perfectly prepared) tortellini and pizza, the same thing happened, no one came there to take our order for extra drinks and dessert. At this point we decided to leave instead. I had to manually track down one of the waiters (not sure if he was a waiter, but he was the only one around) to ask them for the bill. I also asked him if we could remove the service charge from the final amount. He had no clear answer. He just said "well if there is something wrong we can talk about it". The final amount did not include the service charge, but the lady who came to take the payment was smiling at the another waiter while we paid (supposedly because they found it funny that we did not want to pay the extra charge for the non-existent service). At the end it didn't matter though, we technically paid the service charge, because everything cost twice as much as they should. Last night me and my girlfriends decided to go to Akadémia Italia. We were in the good mood, everyone ordered a meal a dessert and a champagne. I ordered pasta with mushrooms and it was not good for the price I ordered :( not to mention I double asked the waiter if my pasta will have cream in it and he assured me that there will be. And, obviously, there was no cream in my pasta. Okay, I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. But when we went inside to pay we asked if we could pay separately and got a very rude reply from the owners wife, she said “we do not have time to split each of your bill, we can make it just four payments” she said they have written that on the menu (obviously we didn’t see it). So when we started to argue for 10 minutes with her I asked “you already spent more time arguing with us than it would take you to split the bill”. They did not care and refused. So we all ended up in the bad mood because we have to now sit down and count every forint. We couldn’t do it, I ended up paying 2 thousand forints more than I had to, and obviously we couldn’t decide who from the girls owns me that money. Aaand we paid 13% tip that they included in our bill. But what kind of survice we got???? Waiter confused me about my order and the stuff was mean to us. So in the end our night was ruined, because that situation made us upset. Why do you open a restaurant if you do not have enough time for your costumers???? (Because the owners wife told me that at least 3 times - we do not have time) I am VERY DISAPPOINTED with Akademia Italia, and will never recommend it...

We came here on the first night for my 50th birthday celebrations and had a wonderful night - the food was amazing…fresh, tasty, plentiful and the service was fantastic! However, as the first night here was so good; we returned for a second night and found the service quite poor; long wait for ordering to table serving. We accept that it was different serving staff waiting on us so forgave this on the night but I was very unhappy when my meal turned up to the table burnt (black around the sides of dish and stuck hard to the bowl) - I did report this to the waiter and bear in mind that my family next to me had exactly the same dish and hers’ was no burnt to compare. The waiter took the dish back to the kitchen and when reporting back to me - I was told and I quote “you will have to choose something else then because that is what the dish is supposed to be”!!! Wow the dish is meant to be burnt - great! How arrogant of the check to say this??? Anyway I didn’t want to prolong the issue for the poor waiter and opted for a pizza which by the way was amazing spicy loved it to my liking and absolutely NOT BURNT! Burnt food is burnt food - stop being arrogant chef burnt! Oh we dined here on the 19th and 20th December 2023 and were seated on one of the ‘egg shaped’ tables close to the pizzeria and clear...
