This was hands down the best restaurant I’ve been to in Budapest. Good service (yes, even though the waitress spilled my coke over my pants - this was compensated with a free drink for both me and my partner), delicious soup as a starter with tasty and soft bread. For the mains we had the goulash with potato croquettes. And no, the croquettes weren’t the typical cheap party croquettes. They appeared to be self-made and yummy. Not as crispy as the ones I know but the went super good with the sauce and the extremely tender beef. My girlfriend had the oven baked duck legs with mashed potatoes and a small cabbage salad. Also very juicy meat and crispy skin. Mashed potatoes were superb and went also well with my goulash sauce. All in all a nice atmosphere- not snobby but you could notice that the staff was trained and skilled. They could explain the whole menu, also came by to check on the guests and made a nice impression. Would 100% recommend. What I always find a little odd is when service charge is included in the bill but that’s just how it is in some restaurants...
Read morevisited this restaurant recently and had a pretty disappointing experience. Since we didn’t have a reservation, we were seated at a small table near the entrance. It wouldn’t have been an issue if the door wasn’t constantly left open, letting in blasts of cold air that made the meal uncomfortable from start to finish.
I ordered a veal goulash soup, but instead, they brought me a beef goulash that was three times the price. The dish was a far cry from what I expected—tough, chewy, and overly dense (and a larger portion than the soup I wanted). Despite asking twice if this was indeed what I ordered, they neither acknowledged the mix-up nor adjusted the bill. To top it off, they left the service tip on, despite my repeated attempts to clarify the order. They just told me that they don’t have the soup, once I pointed out that this isn’t what I ordered. They refused to remove the automatic service tip, despite the mistake in the order.
Overall, this visit left me disappointed. With better communication and attention to detail, it could have been...
Read moreThis restaurant was a recommendation from one of the locals, stating they served excellent traditional Hungarian dishes. We were so glad we took their advice and had dinner here. The restaurant is located Sas U, which just north of the St. Stephen’s Basilica. The restaurant is a rather small, yet cozy place with only a limited number of dining tables, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We did see a few tables outside and what appears to be one small table upstairs that night, but they were not being used. The staff of the restaurant were polite, professional, but not overly warm and friendly. We were quickly waited on and it did not take a great deal of time before our dinners were served. The food was wonderful, served hot and everything we had was delicious, in all, a wonderful dining experience. They do add a service tip to your bill automatically just so people know not to tip twice. Finally, when you do enter the restaurant if you look to the right, you will find a scroll on the wall with the specials of the day in English...
