Gelarto Rosa located nearby the St Stephen's Basilica (see photo for the shop front). There are usually a long queue, especially during sunny day in summer. I was there during daytime with queue, nevertheless I revisited at night time on the same day yet the queue was still on-going. However, it worth the queue as mentioned by other reviewers. I visited the next day, which was a rainy day and the queue was shorter. I love the way they presented the gelato in rose, which is perfect for photo-shooting. Prices are decent: 2 flavours for 800Ft, 3 flavours for 950Ft, and 4 flavours for 1100Ft. You can find the flavours stated on the board before enter the shop, in both Hungarian and English, that you can choose for flavours combinations making up your personalised Gelarto Rosa. I had my first Gelarto Rosa with flavours of pistachio, raspberry, mango, and kiwi-banana. Each flavour taste great, yet combinations of all four were matching, in addition to the eye-catching colours of the end product. I had second with flavours of mango, oreo, and salted caramel. Overall I would highly recommend mango if you do likes mango, as it tasted so good that was not too sweet neither sour. Read moreThe little girl told me what to write, and it goes like... I went to a magic place called Gelarto Rosa in Budapest. It’s not just any ice cream shop. It’s a flower ice cream shop! They gave me a cone that looked just like a rose, but you can eat it! I picked strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla because those are the best flavors ever (and I know a lot about ice cream).
When I held my ice cream rose, I felt like a princess and a superhero at the same time. It was so pretty I almost didn’t want to eat it—but I did, and it was YUM. The strawberry was sweet like hugs, the chocolate was like a cozy blanket, and the vanilla was like sunshine.
And guess what? All the grown-ups were smiling and laughing like me. They were saying “wow” and taking pictures like it was the first ice cream they ever saw. I think ice cream makes adults forget to be boring and lets them be kids again, at least for a little bit.
The people who make the ice cream are like artists. They don’t just scoop it—they swirl it and petal it like they’re painting a masterpiece, but in ice cream. It’s not just a treat, it’s a treasure. I think the ice cream makers must have fairy hands.
So if you go to Budapest, go to Gelarto Rosa. It’s where flowers are cold and sweet, and everybody gets to be a kid. Even your grumpy uncle.
The End (but I want more ice...
