First things first, the staff here were incredibly kind and good natured and provided excellent service. They might need to give the chef a kick up the butt, but not the front of house staff. They were splendid.
I had said bit of fish for starters and it wasn’t bad but wasn’t that great either. The sauce was for decoration rather than flavour and the bits off bread with cream and dill weren’t anything special either. That said it wasn’t bad food. It was ok.
I had paprika chicken for mains and this was a let down. I married into an Eastern European family and I love this dish normally so it wasn’t that I just didn’t like the dish, it was just really not very good mainly because the sauce it was served with tasted of pretty much nothing. It’s paprika chicken and should have a bit of punch whereas I had to douse mine in black pepper to make it palatable. A shame.
Dessert went a lot better. Some big chocolate melt in the middle affair. Made me very anti social so it did. (Remember that scene from when harry met sally?).
The whole time we were there they had an incredibly talented musician playing sweet romantic tunes for me and the other diners. And the manager is an absolute doll too.
This place has an awful lot going for it. It has an incredibly nice ambiance that made me and himself have a really nice time. I just hope they sort out the...
Read moreWell, we visited this restaurant off the back of the excellent reviews and had very high expectations. Things started well but deteriorated towards a very, very uncomfortable situation when it came to pay our bill. I was asked whether I wanted to pay cash or card and said card. A woman came with the machine, and I presented my card to the machine and entered my PIN - only to be informed that it was declined. Certain the was nothing wrong with my card or PIN, I attempted to pay again - only to be informed, this time accompanied by a sour and I must say extremely unprofessional attitude from the woman, that yet again it had been declined. The woman disappeared while I told her that I would have to pay when my partner returned from the rest room. She returned and luckily was able to pay with her card. Upon leaving the restaurant, feeling upset, embarrassed, and a little confused, I received two messages from my bank, informing me that there had just been 2 attempts to pay, on my card £36,784 - yes nearly 37000 pounds sterling - twice! Obviously, my two attempts to pay what should have been the bill in this restaurant for 36784 Hungarian Forints!! You ruined our evening. Thank you very much. Food...
Read moreWe walked in to the restaurant and discovered that the patio was fully booked, so we opted to sit inside. It’s recommended to pre book a table here. It was quite hot, with the temperature around 32 degrees even at 8:30 pm, and there was no breeze. My wife ordered an Aperol Spritz while I got ice water with extra ice.
They served us some bread with flavoured butter to start, which was a nice touch. For mains, we had the goulash soup and paprika chicken. Both dishes were extremely delicious and flavourful. The goulash soup was intense with a rich taste, while the chicken was tender, topped with a creamy paprika sauce and served with potato pudding that resembled cauliflower.
The restaurant featured a lovely candlelight dinner setting, creating a romantic ambiance, complemented by live music that added to the overall experience. The total came to €47 for two mains and one drink, which I found a bit expensive, but the service was impeccable. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, though the heat in Budapest and lack of air conditioning in the restaurant made it a bit uncomfortable. Despite that, everything...
