I highly do not recommend this place for bigger group. We made a reservation for 5 people at 9:30 am for Sunday brunch with friends. When we arrived, the waitress said it’s only for 4 people which was not true as we received a confirmation email with details where was mentioned it was for 5 people. Anyway, the table was not ready and we needed to wait for another 30 minutes to be seated. One chair was missing and that took extra time (because 30 minutes were not enough to find 5 chairs for us 😅). Then they didn’t have cutlery for all of us when the food was served. Food was okey, portions were smaller but eggs were well prepared and tasty. When we tried to explain to the main waitress what the problem was, he didn’t even care and was rude to me and the group of my friends. He said we were supposed to sit outside as it was 5 of us (but he never mentioned that before when we arrived to the cafe). All the people who were waiting for the tables were given a free ginger shot as a gift but guess what - none of us (who waited for 30 minutes to be seated even through we had a reservation) received it. I highly do not recommend coming here, even though the food was okey. You can find many better places around Budapest with same or better prices and food for brunch but definitely with better customer service. I can understand that Sunday morning at a brunch place can be hectic, but the main waitress didn’t care at all about how we felt. That’s a pity.

After writing a review I was contacted by the waitress via social media, which I think is a gross violation...

I had breakfast for 3 days in this location because I was staying near the location. On the first day, I noticed that I have a service tax included in the price, although it was not indicated, but I saw that it is a practice in Budapest. The first waiter who served us served was ok, I was really pleased to give him 1000 HUF in addition to the service fee, after which in the other 2 days I was served by another waiter with a beard and glasses, in case there is one from the owner, he is disappointing On the first day when he served us, we took two English breakfasts and he gave the rest less than 200 huf, mentioning that he did not have a coin and not giving me a tax receipt, only indicating the amount on the tablet, the second day when he served us, he added an expresso for 700 HUF, which I neither ordered nor received, and another 100 HUF for milk, even though I ordered the same thing on the first day and nothing was added to me, which means he inflated the bill by 800 HUF and adding same with the empty one from the day before that he doesn't have a coin, so another 400 HUF that he didn't give a change to it is much too crowded and the smell from the...

Overall, a very pleasant place. We arrived without a reservation and were offered seats at the bar counter. If you prefer a regular table inside or outside, it’s probably best to book in advance, as the café seems very popular.

We were happy to sit indoors, though the outdoor seating looked quite nice. However, there are occasional panhandlers on the street, which might slightly affect the experience for some guests.

The food was delicious: we ordered hearty breakfasts—the English and Recovery breakfasts—which included fresh juice (apple or orange) and coffee. Just a note: if they ask if you’d like a double Americano, as they did with us, there’s an extra charge for it (since it includes two shots of espresso). Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to know upfront that it wasn’t included in the set price.

As for the service, it was impeccable. We had a pleasant chat with our server, and the entire staff was very welcoming, friendly, and attentive.

Overall, we had a very positive experience, as all the important aspects—food, atmosphere, and service—were excellent.

I’d definitely...

Definitely one of the best brunch places in Budapest, and also the only one with open kitchen. Everything is made of high quality ingredients with great care from the chefs. The staff is very friendly and attentive, you can tell they truly love what they are doing. Amongst the savory options we love the Beetroot Avocado Toast and the Eggs Florentine. The portions might not be the biggest but the taste is immaculate. I highly recommend trying their seasonal offers especially the Gingerbread Waffles, it’s so good and not too sweet. If you just want to grab some quick breakfast on your way to work then their pastries, especially the Pistachio Croissant is a must. It’s the best in town, coming from someone who has tried croissants in several bakeries. If you want to enjoy a delightful breakfast/ brunch at a cozy place, with warm atmosphere then don’t miss out on this gem.🧇☕️

We visited this café on the day we checked out from our Airbnb, after noticing the crowd and all the buzz about their food and it truly lived up to the hype! We loved the Hungarian breakfast, smoothie bowl, fresh orange juice, and their Halloween special - a cinnamon tea served as a cold beverage. Later, we also ordered an espresso and an Americano; both were perfectly roasted and full of flavor. The smoothie bowl was simple yet delicious and filling, while the Hungarian breakfast was bursting with flavors. The team was incredibly kind and even let us keep our bags inside since we had some time before heading to the airport. Overall, wonderful hosts and amazing food! Try to visit a little early if you’d like a cozy indoor table it’s especially nice and warm during the colder months.

Lara Cafe in Budapest is a small, simple spot with decent food—the toasties are nice and come with crisps, and some meals include coffee or tea. However, I wouldn’t recommend it due to a few major issues. First, the staff’s behavior was unwelcoming; when we moved a chair to sit closer to our group, a staff member reacted aggressively—shouting, huffing, and forcefully shoving the chairs back. It was uncomfortable and unnecessarily hostile. On top of that, they add a 5% service charge per person and still look for a tip if you’re paying by card, which feels excessive given that the place is already quite pricey for what it is. Sadly, the poor hospitality and unexpected charges left us with a bad impression. I’d suggest considering other options in the area.
