Hotsy Totsy Cocktail Bar — Restaurant in Budapest

ATMOSPHERE We just happened to find this nice bar. Fun atmosphere - special menu that gives the unique drinks some character with a gangster case file theme. But it's complicated, ordering drinks as usual, and the staff give you a run down of how it works before hand. It's a little bit small, so they're tight on space and prefer you to wear more smart clothing - but not formal. You have to wait to be seated because it's not a big bar, but you don't have to wait long. The bar isnt as big as you think, with the mirror at the end but it makes it feel more spacious. The staff were very friendly, smiled, and happy.

DRINKS The drinks were had unique twists, mainly the addition of a savoury ingredient to mix it up a little. Might be a bit of a hit or miss with the drinks on their menu, but it's fun to try, and we enjoyed our drinks especially something new. They also give you the option to DIY your drinks from the ingredients, so maybe you'll have better luck. The drinks were around 3000...

Very nice and cozy place indeed. I'm a fan of cocktail-bar and I have to admit that Hotsy I found it almost by accident, on the recommendation of a local girl.

The environment is clean and well maintained. Hospitality is undoubtedly the main prerogative!!!

We sat at the counter and found a kind and very very knowledgeable Barlady ( Nikolett) who guided us through the selection of drinks.

The drink list is really well curated and fun. A deck of cards with recipes, and a color indicating the main prerogative of the drink .. so as to facilitate the customer.

In this place I found at the same time elaborate and researched drinks that meet my “more technical” tastes, but also simple, understandable and fun drinks that were very much appreciated by my girlfriend who is not a cocktail expert.

I didn’t have a great experience here. We went 40 minutes before they closed and were initially appreciative that they seated us for one drink.

But they would not let us look at a menu (saying there wasn’t enough time) and said they would make a recommended drink instead. The drinks they ended up making were very standard drinks you could get at most bars, which is not the experience I wanted from a cocktail bar so I was a bit disappointed in my drink being very standard. It was well made just not interesting.

Then when the bill came, the drink they “recommended” happened to be nearly twice the price of most of the drinks on the menu (around 20 USD). They didn’t mention this at all and it feels disingenuous that they just happened to recommend what I assume is one of the more expensive drinks on the menu.

Also the bartenders didn’t talk to us at all. For a drink that is $20 USD I...
