The food is fine, although one of the waitresses had an extremely passive-aggressive attitude. There was a misunderstanding with the order, in which I said "2 of the spring rolls" which I didn't realize it means 4 pieces of spring rolls when I wanted 2 pieces only. I admitted it was my fault and apologized for it, but the waitress proceeded to berate me constantly in Vietnamse afterward. She basically said "eff your mother" (This is a pretty common curse in the language), and then added service fee even though it was a takeout. She most likely typed the amount in the fax machine before I paid for the order, though her co-worker seemed to confirm it's not a big deal. She continued complaining about the whole thing while preparing the food. I already told one of her colleagues in private that this reflects badly on the restaurant and that the business doesn't deserve to suffer because of one bad apple. I worked in restaurants before so I have some level of empathy, because I've experienced the same scenario as a waiter, but the business is sure to suffer eventually if this is the quality of...
Read moreA very mid Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Budapest. Many influencers promoted this place on TikTok but honestly it’s a huge disappointment. The Beef Pho is too salty, and as you can see on the photo it’s served in a giant bowl but most of it is just broth. Not much noodles or meat. The Spring Rolls taste good, crispy and flavorful however same as the pho, only the plate is big, the portion isn’t. Other places give more noodles and veggies. We tried the Duck Pad Thai and it was also a bit too salty, also barely has any meat in it, it’s basically just noodles. I had high hopes for the Mango Sticky Rice as it’s one of my favorite Vietnamese dessert but unfortunately the rice was undercooked ruining the whole dish. Ventilation could be improved too. The 3 stars is mainly because the staff was nice (the middle aged waiter who spoke Hungarian and English). There are way better Vietnamese restaurants in town, so I personally don’t recommend this place and won’t be...
Read moreTruly very tasty food - but I don't know if this place or Pho-Astoria Bistro is the better Vietnamese restaurant. Based on the dishes we ordered (pho in Pho-Astoria, noodles in Mây), Pho-Astoria was better, but I don't think I can fairly compare these two dishes. I would love to go back to Mây and try their pho, but unfortunately I did not have the time.
But the food was genuinely very nice - rich and flavourful, exactly what I wanted, especially with the addition of the sauce visible on the photo - and the sweet potato fries were super nice.
The staff is truly very kind, but the way the food was served was a bit odd (I got my main meal before I got my drink or starter), and I had to ask twice for my drink. We also decided to get a dessert somewhere else, because we didn't see a waiter for some time.
I give this four stars, but mostly because of the comparison with Pho-Astoria (which I gave five). I would still recommend to try...
