I usually don’t leave negative reviews, but this time I feel the need to share my experience. My colleagues gifted me a Kóstoló voucher worth 14,900 HUF. It was supposed to be a lovely evening — Kóstoló presents itself as a curated gastronomic experience, where you can choose from many restaurants and enjoy a special tasting menu.
Before our visit, we called the restaurant and checked their page on the Kóstoló website. It clearly stated that there is a dedicated menu for voucher holders, and that guests can choose what they'd like. This gave us the impression of flexibility and a guest-centered experience.
However, upon arrival, we were told we couldn't choose anything — the restaurant would decide what to serve us. This crucial detail was never mentioned on the phone or clearly explained online.
What we received was a meat and cheese platter, a few olives, some sun-dried tomatoes, and a lot of bread. No one asked about dietary preferences or restrictions — whether we eat meat or dairy, whether we’re vegetarian, or lactose intolerant. The decision was made for us, without consideration.
Service was mixed: the waitress who greeted us wasn't very friendly, while the male staff members were polite and attentive. Since we were still hungry, we ordered dinner and cocktails separately. The food we ordered was tasty — no complaints there. But the cocktail was another disappointment: the mint and lime were moldy and dirty. I even placed them on a plate — it was unpleasant and unhygienic.
To make things worse, when we looked at the menu prices later, the total value of what we were served was only around 11,790 HUF — not even close to the 14,900 HUF the voucher was worth (unless they charged a few thousand for the bread?). It left us feeling like the experience wasn’t worth what was paid for — especially for something that was meant to be a gift.
Overall, the idea behind Kóstoló is nice, but in reality, it felt misleading and disappointing. More transparency and care for guests — especially those using a prepaid voucher — would make a...
Read moreWe gave this wine bar our lowest possible rating do to poor service and standards. We ordered two glasses of Italian white wine and received a “wine taste” level pouring. I know everyone is trying to cut costs these days but this was nothing short of comical. The glass was about 1/6 full and less than 100ml. We asked if is this was the standard and the staff became defensive and started quoting legal reasons for the short pour. It’s worth noting, we have not experienced this issue in any of the other restaurants and cafes in Budapest.
We also ordered a French cheese plate and still water. Neither the still water or cheese showed up after waiting 20 minutes in an empty bar with more staff than patrons. We asked for the check and after another long wait the waitress showed up to close out the bill which came to over 17 euros for two taste test glasses of wine. As we were departing, one of the cooks yelled out “never come back”. I think we will take you up on that one and hope others will follow. Fortunately, we went to dinner at the Turkiz Restaurant and had a very different experience all together. We enjoyed great service, food, and an actual...
Read moreI have been here several times, the concept is not of a restaurant, the place wants to emulate the typical Italian "vineria", even tho they have food on the menu like a regular restaurant the atmosphere is warm and cozy like in an Italian place, they ONLY serve Italian wine with a very wide selection of excellent wine, every week they have some different wine by the glass, if you are lucky you.may find some wine you rarely can find elsewhere served by glass, one of the servers Domenico is I guess half Italian half Hungarian is an excellent server and everyone , if you are not Italian or hungairan, speak a good English, differently from the "cousins" of the restaurant pomo d'oro (located Just in front the osteria) this is a place really worth to pay a visit, the difference between the restaurant and this osteria Is insane, i strongly suggest to stick to this place, especially if you are Italian, and don't go to the restaurant (believe me just dont go). The place is worth visiting,...
