We thought we'd stop off for a quick dinner on the way to a river cruise. We were greeted promptly and seated near the bar. Our order was taken fairly quickly. I was impressed with the beer selection and thought the prices were reasonable for city center. We were disappointed to see that the 'nachos' were only a plate of tortilla chips with 2 small ramekins of dips. Where were the melted cheese and jalapenos that traditionally go with nachos? Not value for money here. My wife's Caesar salad was quite basic, but my beer and chicken paprika were delicious. I was happy to give a 10% tip to the waiter, as he was very attentive, but in looking at my bill later, I realized that there was already a 12.5% service charge added beforehand. I know that I should have asked, but by the same token, it should be pointed out to the customer, especially one who does not understand the Hungarian writing on the bill. Additionally, why are tip options even on the card machine? If there is an explanation for this, I would...
Read moreKind stuff, but terrible service. We came here at 22:15, kitchen closes at 22:30. The waitress come to take our order at 22:30 and said, that kitchen is closed, only drinks. I noticed, that menu says the kitchen is open until 22:30 and we're really hungry and the waitress kindly took our order (4 pcs). And after 40 minutes of waiting in a nearly empty pub, only when I asked what's with our food, the waitress told us that unfortunately, the kitchen is really closed and everyone just left. Fantastic. Though she suggested we take some cold snacks (which were fine, no complaints here) for free because of our long wait. I don't understand, why every pub in Budapest is taking so long to serve you. What's the point, if I can serve myself better? One more thing: the price for wine is for one glass, nearly 125 ml. But if you DON'T CLARIFY you will be served a glass with TWO portions, nealy 250 ml. What the heck is this, how I...
Read moreThis place have a history with "Csak neked Dezső" and this new bar using it as an advantage. However the famous location is not enough by itself, there should be quality and also fair prices. There are still nice whiskeys and draft beers but they are ok a restaurant price. When I get 4dl beer and 2dl beer and they are around 2-3000 forint and they also charge for super slow table only service I start to wonder if there are better options and there are! This was not our first time here but each time there are less people. You might find them a few corners from here where you have the same quality closer to the center with no extra service fee and you can save around 30 percent in your final bill. Food is also nothing special, the jalapeno poppers were taste premade frozen with some fake cheddar in them. I would say try it and decide yourself but for me there are much better places so 3...
