I went to eat there, at the early night, the olace was almost empty, its beautiful and super cozzy inside, lighting is great and the place is warm.
I was very upset by the waiters, two dudes one is old and can somewhat speak english one is adult and was much more nicer than the other one. The menu is super big with more than 70 pieces in!... when it was time to order, the old one took our orders but was so fed up with us and it felt uncomfortable, clearly he didnt like his job and did not wanted to be there, and it showed by how he speaks and how he acts.. he brought us bread we did not ordered sayig it was "free with the meal" when i asked him clearly if it was included or meant to be payed later he just madly shook it off, wich in the end it was to be payed separetly.. the food was too salty and my fish was dry.
There was some live music wich was really really good! But the band played for like 4 and a half minutes from that hour we were in there, but i believe if the place was more crowded they would play more :)
After we ate and asked our check it had the bread to be payed our food and drinks and a!17!% of service!!! Like id like to tip and pay for the band but 17%!??? Are kiddig me..
A place to be avoided for sure, a mess of a staff with old and outdated customs.. 1\5...
Read moreI gave them only one star because I spent really awful time here. The service - waiter was terrible , their level of speaking in english is summed up to 4-5 words and those can be felt , the food ordered was brought very late , the quality of the food was doubtful , the order was not delivered correctly but I found on the bill even what was not brought to me . And after all when I asked for check (after 30 minutes of waiting) and after I told him I want to split the check (because we were more at the table) he brought me a single bill . I asked him to pay with credit card and the waiter repeated me obsessively that he prefers cash (forint , euro , dollar ....doesn't matter) and that the tips is not included in the receipt . Tips ????? For what ? Because you just did the job you are paid for ? And by the way it was done in an absolutely pitiful way . I told them three times more that I want to pay with my credit card and finally someone "understood" and they invitef me inside because the POS was "just inside" . Rubbish people . Were the worst 50 Euros spent by me so far in Budapest . But no tips from my side . Anyway the City is great . You have to visit at least once in a lifetime...
Read moreWe stay at the Gellert Hotel every December and visit Szeged Restaurant at least once during our stay. This will not happen anymore. We had a bad experience last year and put it down as a "one off" but this year was the last straw. The soup starter was just about OK but my main course was really cold and I had to ask for it to be heated up (microwaved). It returned hot but it was not particularly tasty. However, the main issue was the bill. We always leave a minimum of 10% in restaurants unless the service is really bad. On this occasion the service was not the issue and we would have left a tip. We were quite shocked to find that a service charge of 12% had already been added taking away any choice regarding the amount we gave. I don't approve of this practice and consequently will not use Szeged again. There are many good restaurants in this beautiful city and this establishment are not doing themselves any favours by adopting...
