❗ AVOID THIS PLACE ❗
You probably ended up here because a local guide recommended this place as an "authentic" hungarian restaurant. It is a total scam and the food was just bad. Don't get fooled by the fake 5 ⭐ reviews! (more on that later)
That is the way they get clients, and we fell for it. No local would enter this covert tourist trap. The place was unusually empty for a Saturday night, which should've been an instant tell.
The food is not fresh, it came out of the kitchen suspiciously quick for what we ordered. The hungarian dumplings had an obvious sitting-in-the-fridge-for-a-few-days-and-then-microwaved taste, and the goulash was especially far from what it's supposed to be (the vegetables were not boiled properly, the taste was off, the soup itself was way too liquid, and the seasoning was embarassingly bland). We had terrible stomach aches afterwards, that lasted a few hours. Was the cook blindfolded? Depressed? We will never know - DEFINITELY not underpaid, considering what he charges for his crimes; everything on the menu has an extra 12% charge, which is insulting, to say the last.
The majority of the positive reviews on Google maps are written by local guides, which explains the high 4.6 rating this place undeservedly has.
I am truly sorry for everyone who eventually discovered what this place obviously isn't, the owner should be ashamed of running such a scam in such an otherwise beautiful part of Budapest, near the Buda castle district.
I rate it ⭐⭐ because the service was nice, otherwise it's a 0/10.
To be avoided at all costs, unless you plan on buying diarrhea...
Read moreFirst visited in 2018, when I was vegetarian, and although there were no veggie options in the menu (at that time at least), the chef was extremely creative and offered me a custom made vegetable, salad and camembert platter that was magnificent. And now in 2025 visited again, now I've grown up and am not vegetarian anymore, so I came back for the real deal, a goulash soup and pork chop, and damn was the food delicious. Absolute flavor bomb! I brought a native budapestian with me and he vouched for it, so don't take only my word. Service is still as helpful as before, and atmosphere is your traditional eatery with authentic Budapest vibes, all in all an excellent choice for lunch or dinner, and all...
Read moreMy friend and I came in after visiting the Castle District, expecting good Hungarian food based on the reviews. As a local, I was excited to show my friend some traditional dishes.
The waiter was friendly, but the food arrived suspiciously fast, within 5 minutes. I ordered the Brassói aprópecsenye, but what I got didn’t resemble Brassói at all. It tasted off, and to make things worse, I found a large hair in my dish. I’m not a picky eater, but this was inedible and I couldn’t finish it. My friend’s beef stew was also very mediocre at best. Just bad.
Overall, just not a good experience. Pretty disappointing. Would...
