The most awful experience with the nastiest waiter who made a customer cry by embarrassing them over a medical issue.

We stopped by for drinks and potentially some food as the restaurant looked nice and had a pretty outside area, when we were seated we were told we couldn’t sit at the front of the terrace as the tables were saved incase a booking wanted to sit there - totally fine with us, although there was absolutely no one else in the restaurant. However the issue arose when the waiter took our order, due to a bad flare up of a medical condition (chrons) I was unable to eat a lot of food, so asked if I could order a child’s meal as the potion was the only thing I could have, (my partner was going to order a full meal) however the waiter said no they couldn’t do that, again completely fine, I understand restaurants have different rules! No issue at all, so we said we’ll just have drinks. During the next 5 minutes however, I was completely humiliated as the waiter proceeded to point at laugh at my request with not one but 3 separate other members of staff, even calling them over to point at our table and giggle. This of course made us extremely uncomfortable so we immediately asked for the bill. The waiter continued to embarrass us to the point I got extremely anxious and upset, in private I mentioned it to another waiter to say I found the experience incredibly uncomfortable and unkind and he proceeded to smirk and shrug. After I paid the bill INCLUDING service while embarrassed and upset, they then continued to laugh with each other and made patronising comments when we left. I was genuinely shocked at how awful the waiter was as I’ve never experienced anything like this. Again I completely understand not being able to order the child’s meal and was happy to just stay for drinks but the nastiness of the servers was just insane, how can you have a customer crying and leaving early due to how embarrassed you made them feel for simply asking...

On 25th of July, We chose VárVarjú, part of the VakVarjú restaurant family, hoping for a lovely dinner with great food and a scenic atmosphere. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the manager, which raised our expectations for a pleasant evening. However, the experience quickly took a turn. After being seated, we waited quite a while without receiving menus, so I eventually got them myself—not a big issue, but a small sign of inattentiveness. We placed our order, and shortly after, realized we had forgotten to ask for a bottle of water. We planned to request it when our drinks arrived. To our surprise, another waiter came by offering water, which we gladly accepted, assuming it was part of the service. Unfortunately, just a few minutes later, the same waiter returned visibly frustrated, stating, “you no order water,” and proceeded to take back the bottle and even the glasses he had already poured—mine was half full. Despite our attempt to explain that we had intended to order water, he dismissed us and made a passive-aggressive comment in Hungarian (“pedig még meg is kérdeztem”), not realizing I’m a local and understood everything. This interaction left us feeling uncomfortable and disappointed. From that point on, we received side-eyes and overheard more unprofessional remarks in Hungarian from the staff. It was disheartening, especially considering that a service fee is already included in the bill. The food was okay, but the poor service completely overshadowed the experience. We left feeling unwelcome and disrespected—definitely not what we expected from a restaurant of...

We were extremely dissatisfied with the food. We previously visited this place when it was a Monkey Bistro and everything was fine. However, our visit today was a great disappointment. I ordered Gödöllői chicken leg which tasted quite mysteriously - every part of the dish tasted like something completely artificial. Chicken did not taste like chicken, cottage cheese balls did not taste like cottage cheese balls- if that makes any sense. The spices were so overwhelming and completely took over the taste of everything. I did not even eat 1/3 of it- it was very oily, and the balance of taste did not exist at all. My mother’s dish, on the other hand, was tasteless. Like the fish and two shrimps we got with it were boiled with only water, no salt and other spices in sight. The cold sauce tasted like you’re dipping fish into a green-smoothie fresh out of nutri-bullet. Again, we couldn’t tell what the dishes tasted like, and if some of the ingredients used weren’t listed in the menu, we wouldn’t know what we were eating. The disappointment with food was genuinely unpleasant- especially because when the dishes arrived they looked lovely. Anyways, the service was completely fine and the atmosphere is pleasant. The location itself- amazing. I only wish the food was as half as good. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back or...

We had lunch here. We found this place by accident because the restaurant we originally wanted to try was fully booked. We didn’t have a reservation, but luckily there were plenty of available tables at lunchtime. We tried the Borsó velouté, Hűs meggyleves, cinnamon and clove yogurt bonbon, traditional chicken paprikash, pike-perch fillet Kárpáti-style, and lemon tart with baked apple and raspberry yogurt crisp. We also had a bottle of wine and did a pálinka tasting. Unfortunately, the pálinkas were served too warm, so we couldn’t enjoy them as much. However, the price of the wine was reasonable — not 3–4 times higher than in wine shops, as is often the case in restaurants. The dishes were delicious, and the service was nice and friendly. Just a friendly suggestion: the wait staff could perhaps be a bit more informed about the dishes and drinks (e.g., whether the pálinka is "ágyas" or not 🤭). In summary, we were satisfied with both the food and the service. We recommend this place if you're in or near the Buda Castle area.

✨ A hidden gem in Budapest! ✨ We stumbled upon a place that’s truly rare to find in the city: a stunning restaurant with a beautiful view of the bridge – and we were lucky enough to be seated on the rooftop terrace. Such a cozy and magical atmosphere! 🍽️ The food? Simply put, if you were to walk into 100 different restaurants, 80 to 90 of them wouldn’t come close to this quality – and most would charge you more. So yes, it’s that good. 👨‍🍳 The service was outstanding – warm, professional, courteous, and genuinely welcoming. It made the whole experience even better. 📸 We’re sharing a few photos of the dishes and the vibe, because this is one of those places you just have to experience for yourself. 🗺️ The menu is varied, and packed with well-known Hungarian classics – perfect for anyone visiting Budapest who wants to enjoy authentic local flavors. 💯 Highly, highly recommended!
