I usually write my reviews a few hours/days after the experience but this is one among the exceptions, and for all the wrong reasons!
The staff here is very dishonest and almost racist, if I may say so. Here's what happened: I ordered the Pizza Marinara di Vegazzi. The pizza they served me is as pictured in the image. It had no sundried tomatoes when the menu clearly said sundried tomatoes.
When I asked them about it politely, the staff claimed that the tomatoes on my pizza are sundried! First off, I'm having trouble believing that someone who works at a pizzeria doesnt know what sundried tomatoes are. I explained to her that those are not and had to pull up images from Google to show her what sundried tomatoes looked like! She then proceeded to call the chef who also justified that there were sundried tomatoes in my pizza! I'm southasian and was alone so maybe they hoped that I wouldn't notice. Unfortunately for them, my memory is pretty good.
Even after showing them what sundried tomatoes are, the chef brought out a bag of 'semi-dried' tomatoes trying to claim they are sundried and were the same ones on my pizza. And unfortunately for them, I remember that the menu mentioned both kinds of tomatoes on this pizza — semi-dried as well as sundried.
Mind you, I was extremely polite when I asked about this. My expectation wasn't that they give me a replacement pizza as I had already started eating (maybe taken 2-3 bites), but that they offer a solution like simply adding the sundried tomatoes or a simple apology would've done too! When the chef first came out to speak to me, his first words were "What's your problem?". After a lot of convincing they finally agreed that there were no sundried tomatoes on it. They offered to replace it but still somehow claimed that no normal person would want sundried tomatoes on a pizza. I politely declined as I had already started eating the pizza and it's against my morals to eat more than I've paid for. The staff offered it on the side at the end, and I agreed.
And mind you, this place isn't too affordable either. 4/10 for the pizza (only the crust was good and they are extremely stingy with the toppings); 0/10 for ethics. I'm sure it wasn't a matter of wrong ingredients on the menu since their menu is literally a page long and it wouldn't cost them much...
Read moreThe vegan pizzas here are fantastic. Honestly, some of the best we’ve ever had!!
Unfortunately, both visits were marked by the same issue. The same waiter gave us the coldest, most dismissive service I’ve ever experienced. He was friendly and welcoming with every other table, but with us, it felt personal. I understand that anyone can have a bad day but this didn’t feel like that. His behavior came across as intentionally unkind, passive-aggressive, and unpleasant. It was genuinely shocking.
He barely engaged with us, and while we saw him subtly encouraging tips at other tables (which is completely normal in Budapest), he didn’t even try with us. It honestly felt like he already knew he wasn’t going to get one based on the energy he’d been giving us the whole time. Our second time there, we ended up being overcharged on the bill, and although he corrected it, his sarcastic tone made the whole thing made me wonder if it had even been a real mistake or a way to get a tip.
I’m writing this review not to discourage people from going, the food is genuinely amazing but to share that the service sadly affected our experience. Hopefully it was just an isolated case because the kitchen truly deserves...
Read moreIn my 12+ years as a vegan, I've explored countless vegan pizza options across various cities, including my own homemade creations. But I've never encountered anything quite like this place.
Their dough, prepared with a unique blend of biga and sourdough starter, offers a taste distinct from conventional dough. It serves as the ideal canvas for their exceptional, hand-picked toppings, resulting in a truly remarkable pizza experience.
During my five-day stay in Budapest, I frequented this establishment four times, and I would have visited more if they weren't closed on Mondays. This is a must-visit for both vegan and non-vegan pizza enthusiasts.
In a time when many vegan establishments in Budapest are closing, I hope this gem endures for years to come. It's a testament to the artistry and dedication that can elevate vegan cuisine to unparalleled heights.
Update: Recently, they hired a waiter whose service felt overly pushy and insincere. Despite having little knowledge about the pizzas, he talked excessively and aggressively solicited tips at the payment desk, on top of the already included 12% service fee. This behaviour was disappointing and detracted from the otherwise...
