Vintage Garden — Restaurant in Budapest

Stay away at all costs, especially if a tourist. As much as Budapest is a lovely city, this place will ruin your trip. This place feels more like an actual scam than anything. A bit pricey, which we were fine with at first since most other places around seemed full and it was late at night When we received the bill, it was very much more than expected. Due to the bill being in Hungarian we were trying to figure it out but by the time they saw we were discussing the bill among ourselves, they got a big guy we had not seen before who was very pushy to get us to pay the bill quick. Guy was acting impatient for the whole 2 minutes we saw him. We did the mistake of paying quick and realised after that they had charged a 30%. While waiting for my partner to be done with the bathroom, I overheard the other table next to us who were French tourists and also seemed very surprised by the price saying things like "that's how they're getting us" and making the conversion in Euro and being shocked. Since the reviews for this place are good, I assume they only scam tourists.

As for the review of the venue, that place is a mess. It doesn't know what it wants to be. Pink Christmas decore reminiscent of a cheap American pastry shop that is more geared towards its instagramability than its food. Light that is too bright it makes you feel like you are eating in a cafeteria. The music switching from being a depressed Brit with The Smiths to a depressed cowboy with sad country music.

Not sure what the theme of the menu is supposed to be either but the food was good. Service was non existent which makes the 30% service charge even more absurd.

As a tourist, I would not go as to not get scamed, as a local I would not go for the lack of ambiance and the superficiality of a concept that we have seen time and time again that is done in a...

Perfect location in the middle of Budapest (Close to Király street), very romantic seasonal decoration. I love the vintage style, it’s like a delicious macarone 😅🥰

🌸we tried: 🍷LEMONADE WITH ROSE aroma: served in very nice carved glass, looked like crystal and very elegant. Taste was very good 🍷 CRUXX FRUITWINE STRAWBERRY-RASPBERRY: OMG!!!! Most amazing tasty wine I have tried ❤️❤️ i loved it that it wasn’t strong at all and the taste was like biting a bowl of fresh strawberry-raspberry. GIVE ME MORE PLEASE 🤤🤤🍓🍓🍓 🥗CAESAR SALAD WITH TIGER PRAWNS: was very tasty, we could only wish for a bit more prawns 🙃 but still it was very good 🥗VINTAGE GARDEN SALAD (mixed salad, ewe cheese, peanut dressing, fresh fruits): this time it was with fresh strawberry pieces, roasted pecan nut, strawberry vinagrette and the cheese was perfectly grilled). I loved how they serve it, on dark design plate and the flavor combination was in very good harmony!! 🥰🥰❤️👌 🍨DESSERT: FALLING IN PLUM (plum cream with wallnut-cinnamon sponge cake and white chocolate): it was very creamy and light, not too sweet. This place is beautifully decorated and very cute. The food was good but nothing to get crazy. I would reccomend going for breakfast or even for a coffee or hot chocolate and cake(both excelent) in the mid afternoon. The service so ,so. Some of the staff are friendly and helpful, some others not so much. For instance, the girl serving in the bar was rude and unfriendly from beginning to end, we entered the place and greet telling her we did not have reservation but we would love a table x 2. She just made a gesture like saying wait with the hand with an unfriendly look like she doesnt like much tourist or who knows(I assumed that conclusion later), but however we did so. She didn't tell anyone we were there waiting, and other members of staff where coming and living completely ignoring us, specially this girl ,who was greeting and saying goodbye to other locals but no even care that were there about 10 min in front of her. Later on she didn't reply to our goodbye either, I never got the point of the attitute. But anyway , what I said is that they were acting like the place maybe was fully booking or they were extremely busy ,when I actually was about to leave, I enter deeper to the back to check what I was missing, and to my surprise the place was less than half full. Even like that , I stayed because I really wanted to try, and fortunately it was another waitress and waiter in the back much friendlier whose made my experience worthy at the end.
