Mama Goulash is a cozy spot serving hearty Hungarian classics, and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Chicken Paprikash in a bread bowl, and it was absolutely delicious, the chicken was tender, the sauce rich and flavorful, and the bread bowl soaked up all that goodness perfectly.
The real star, though, was the paprika side sauce. Honestly, one of the best sauces I’ve ever had, smoky, slightly spicy, and packed with depth. It elevated the whole dish.
We got in early and easily found seats, which was great because as we were leaving, a long queue had formed. Clearly a popular spot, so timing matters!
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and quick. A big thank you to Teresa for helping us with the menu and assissting us throughout the meal, you could not have made this a better experience!
Prices are fair for the quality and portion size, and the presentation was rustic yet inviting.
Tip: Go early to avoid waiting in line. Don’t skip the bread bowl, it’s a game-changer. Try the paprika sauce with everything, it’s that good.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Mama Goulash is a must-visit for authentic Hungarian...
Read moreWe came here as we were looking for a traditional goulash soup and unfortunately, had not booked any of the recommended restaurants before hand. When we arrived there was a small queue however, as we were happy to be seated outside, we were given a table almost immediately. We were given the menus and the server took our orders pretty quickly. No sooner had we ordered, our food started to come out. First the pickles, then the goulash, the chicken paprika and finally the potato soup in a bread roll. Whilst I didn't expect it to be freshly cooked, I did not expect it to come out quicker than it would at McDonalds. Clearly, everything here is pre-cooked and ready to go. Don't get me wrong, the food was okay. It wasn't particularly hot, but we were hungry and happy to get eating. We had three main meals, two salads, two beers and a red wine, with a bill totalling £43. Of note, they charge two separate service fees, one for drinks and one for food and it is added directly onto the total bill. Would I visit again, no, there are far too many choices in Budapest to visit here...
Read moreSuperb food and service! It was a busy night when I passed by, although I decided to still give it a go. I was a bit apprehensive because of the waiting line I thought they would have touristy prices and average serving sizes. But to my surprise I didn’t even have to wait long to be accommodated. There was enough staff to check if all customers were catered for. My particular server was really friendly and made sure I was happy with my orders. I oredered the beef goulash and chicken paprikas as these were the “traditional” dishes and I was really happy with what I got! I did not have room for dessert since I was dining these two decent sized dishes by myself. I hope food portions and flavors maintain and they continue to keep lovely staff as it really improves the experience! Thanks for making my first Hungarian meal worth...
