Having binged on Andhra meals from popular Andhra restaurants dotting the city, the Iconic Bheema’s been on the radar but simply couldn’t visit for some reason or the other. I had been here ages ago. I love meals on a banana leaf. When the cravings hit for “yele oota” or meals on the leaf, I decided to go here after years!
This review is a two time visit one – I went once with my friend and once by myself within a span of two weeks. What can I say! True Andhra meals with its tantalizing pappu (dal cooked in greens), gun powder, majjiga pulusu, and the usual accompaniments of sambar, rasam, curd, buttermilk, papad, pickle, chutney, dry curry and piping hot rice with ghee poured liberally over it. I don’t eat sweet (payasam) so I gave it a miss but it was there along with the rest.
There is something so filling, so wholesome about this kind of lunch that one can experience true satisfaction. I could eat this daily! I do wish the dry curry would change though. Chutney and the pappu were awesome. Slightly less spicy compared to the other ones but tasty all the same.
Times have change. Costs have risen so the same quantity is missing – smaller cups. Number of items are the same though elsewhere it is two sabzis and usually a gravy one. Thankfully, the taste is great so it was all worth it. Service was top notch. The place is clean and cozy. Go as soon as it opens though because it does get filled up fast. I would like one more dish to be added to the menu – a fried or gravy vegetable. That aside, I plan to make this my regular “go to” place for Andhra veg meals.
Overall rating: 5/5 – Very healthy, very tasty, very satisfying.
Ratings for reviews 1-No! No! No! 2-Just about average 3- Good. Can give it a try 4-Great!! 5-Yes! Yes! Yes! And I’ll tell...
Read moreBheema's is a Andhra restaurant located on Church Street in Bangalore, offering authentic Andhra-style cuisine. The restaurant has a traditional ambiance with old-world charm, making it the perfect place to experience traditional Andhra food. Bheema's has been around for quite some time and has established itself as a favorite among locals. The restaurant is popular for its vegetarian Andhra meals, which come with a few veg options. You must try it with side of fish, chicken or mutton fry. The meals are served on banana leaves and are unlimited, though there is less variety in the dishes served. The local dishes are a must-try, as the North Indian options are not as good.
The prices are reasonable, especially given the quality and taste of the food. The meals are very tasty and come in big portions, ensuring that you leave the restaurant feeling satisfied. The chutney served with the rice is particularly noteworthy and is a perfect complement to the meal. The only downside to Bheema's is the added north indian food, which is not like the local food food and also the parking situation, which can be a bit of a challenge. The restaurant tends to get crowded during peak hours, so it is advisable to make a reservation beforehand to ensure that you get a table.
Overall, Bheema's is an excellent restaurant for those looking to experience authentic Andhra-style cuisine. The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, and the ambiance is traditional and charming. If you're in Bangalore and are looking for a good meal, make sure to check...
Read moreMy search for old restaurants in Bangalore has crossed a milestone by visiting this restaurant. This is a 20+ years old restaurant located at the center and most happening part of bangalore I.e., Church Street. The ambience are old and gives you a feel of very old but well maintained restaurant.
This restaurant serves is an andhra style cuisine restaurant but they do serve some dishes of North Indian also. The food is served in banana leaves.
This place is known for both veg meals and non veg -items, I have been 2 times to this place once for veg and once for nonveg. For veg it's andra veg meals, it's so good with ghee, Kandi podi, pickles, curries,...etc. It's so good.
Now comes the craziness for non-veg, I ordered Chicken curry masala(half) and prawns fry.
Honestly spewing the Chicken curry (half) quantity is for for 2 people and I never seen any restaurant in entire bangalore serving that much quantity. Coming to the taste of chicken, it melts lile butter in your mouth so soft, we'll cooked and excellent taste.
Prawns fry is a semi dry dish, I tried prawns dry in many restaurant but no where it's good but here I can say this is the only restaurant bangalore who cooked with excellent taste and the prawn size is good and the taste is excellent.
They don't parking but you still can park at the end of the church street or park at brigade and walk to the restaurant.
Totally perfect meal and worth going, I recommend that this is a must visit place in Bangalore and I will visit again for...
