Date of visit: 7th May 2023.
It was a disappointment. Had been wanting to try this place for a very long time since we love Kashmiri food. Have been to Habba Kadhal a couple of times and had a great experience there. Thought of giving it a try at Orzuv for a change. Boy, I couldn't have been more disappointed.
We booked seats for 2:30 PM via the Zomato carnival and reached there by 2:20 PM. We were told that the tables were full and had to wait. We waited in the waiting room (ground floor) for a good 15 minutes and went to enquire on the 1st floor (where the restaurant is located). Still no tables were free. There were at least 3 other groups waiting for a table.
Finally, we got a table after 3 PM. The table was not cleaned after the previous customers left. We had already decided on our orders by looking at the restaurant menu through Zomato/Swiggy. We just wanted one of the waiters to come and take our order. A waiter comes to get our orders at 3:15 PM, and he told us that the menu has been revamped. We should order from the new menu available of their website! They could have informed us when we sat there!
The waiter returned at 3:30 PM and took our orders. It has been an hour and 10 minutes since we reached the restaurant. Meanwhile, we ask another waiter to please clean our table. We were astonished to hear his reply, "Sir, we are very busy. We will do it shortly!"
Cleaning a dirty table when customers are made to sit is not a priority for them!
At 4 PM, our food arrives. We did not enjoy the food. From the consistency of the gravy, it looked like they ran out of curry and then added some water and corn-flour to quickly make some extra curry. The pulav was over-cooked and lightly squishy.
When the bill arrived, we promptly asked to remove the service charges since the service was horrible. They removed the charge immediately. In total we spent 2.5 hours there for a lunch for 3 people.
Their problem is that they just have 2 waiting staff to handle around 10-15 tables. The waiting staff are not at fault. They were very approachable - the only good thing here apart from the vibe. The owner should employ more staff so that customers have a better experience.
This is undoubtedly one of my worst restaurant experiences in recent times.
I recommend Habba Kadhal, which is around 1 km from here if you want to have a good Kashmiri food experience. Especially the...
Read moreWe reached the restaurant at 12:30PM, it has a decent sitting capacity place is located on the 1st floor. There is place for at least 3 to 4 cars. Despite being a Sunday we were only guest which surprised us. We were welcomed and could select anywhere we wanted to sit. QR Code scanner was given to us to go thru the menu.
Ambiance - The restaurant has a very rustic ambiance with mini library with lots of books and papers stuck on the ceiling and a room having sitting facility on the ground.
It was around 12:40pm and we ordered Kebab, Lime soda and waiter Bilal comes with an apologetic face saying Kebab Chef got delayed and he will be reaching in 5 minutes due to which your starter will be delayed. But he assured that Kebab will be at our table by 1PM. Now let's jump into what we ordered.
Sheermal and Girda - Since the starters were delayed we ordered Sheermal. Slightly sweet with a hint of salty it was a delight in our mouth. Similarly Girda had less sweet flavor and almost flat taste like a tandoor roti. The bread was fluffy and had the best feel in the mouth. Rating 4/5.
Maaz Seekh Kebab - Special wazwani dish super minced lamb with Kashmiri spices put in a charcoal grill. It was served along with mint and onion chutney. The lamb was super chewy and didn't get the feeling of being soft, it was tough. Rating 2/5.
Kashmiri Non Veg Pulao (Yakni Pulao) - They only had chicken with bone option. The Pulao was loaded with a lot of cashews and fried onion. The rice was cooked in the broth and you could feel the same in every bite. It could have been better as we felt the rice being too sticky and overcooked. The portion size is large. Rating 3/5
Lamb Rista - 2 Super large Mutton meat balls cut into 4 pieces cooked in a gravy made of Kashmiri Praan (Wild onions) and chilly, cardamom and other spices. The gravy was so good that we just had it like a soup. This is something a must try along with Sheermal and Grida. Rating 4/5.
Lime Soda - Rating 4/5.
Service - From the entry to exit the waiters were smiling and had very warm welcoming approach. Very apologetic when it came to delay. Rating 4/5.
Overall - I ended up paying ₹2,500 including taxes and services charges for a meal of 2 adults and 2 kids, which I found to be overpriced for such a small restaurant. Payment options is either Cash or UPI. They charged 8%...
Read moreNature has endowed Kashmir with implausible beauty and as it rightly called as "Paradise on Earth", the state holds immense gastronomic gems that you can rarely experience in any other part of the country. It gets ever better with picture perfect landscaps ranging from the majestic Pir Panjal ranges and thickly scented Kashmir cypress branches to the meandering rivers and verdant meadows, every corner of the valley is filled with great beauty - many of us may not be as fortunate amidst workload to be in paradise but can always visit this very cafe in quest of great Kashmiri food.
To begin with, the magnificent ambiance that immediately instills in your mind the beauty of Kashmir is accompanied by hard wood like flooring and made complete by slanted roofs. A beautiful house with a lot of history has been converted into this stately cafe that stands tall and looks spectacular almost like it is not a part of mainland Bangalore.
I started my meal with a Zafrani lassi - the amount of dry fruits and saffron in the lassi are commendable and the consistency is quite thick, which makes it very filling. If you are someone with a poor appetite, do not order this at first else you won't be able to get to main course. For starters, the kokkur tikka is a must try as the cuisine of Kashmir not only fills your stomach but also helps celebrate lives.
The traditional mutton Rogan Josh consisting of pieces of lamb or mutton braised with a gravy flavoured with garlic, ginger and aromatic spices (cloves, bay leaves, cardamom, and cinnamon), and in some versions incorporating onions or yogurt, finished using the dampokhtak slow cooking technique was a favourite which i tried with fruit naan. Also if you do have a sweet tooth, do try the fruit naan with phirni as they go very well together. The yakhni pulao too is a great option to try. If you can not decide what to order, do ask the servers for recommendations as they are exceptionally familiar with the menu and all items on offer including specials. What's more? Orzuv is pet friendly which makes it your perfect...
