There is something so wholesome and satisfying about eating meals from a leaf- these are usually served in weddings and functions. I have had my fair share of Andhra vegetarian meals too and been looking out for restaurants where meals are served on leaves or Baale Yele Oota as we call it down south. In Udupi Sri Krishna Bhavan right on Gandhi Bazaar main road, the Baale Yele Oota is very similar to ones in weddings – starting with pulpy grape juice, sweet, salt, pickle, kosambari, two different types of dry playa/curries, holige, bajji, poori, saagu, two types of flavoured rice (tomato rice was awesome), dahi vada, papad, kadubu, chutney, steaming hot white rice and sambar (I feel like going and paying just to eat these two items and nothing else), rasam, curd rice, and they even end it with paan and banana. The sheer variety of items is mind boggling!! I had to refuse a few items because of feeling full and I don’t think I have listed them all. I feel like I’m describing an Indian version of an Enid Blyton picnic. Taste is very good. I liked being served as little or as much as I want. Service was very hospitable and very thoughtful. Prices are reasonable for variety of food items. Good clean seating space. The person cleaning up the tables and taking finished meals on leaves and dirty dishes into his cart doesn’t have much space to maneuver his cart and this can get a bit annoying for the dirty cart is too close when eating. That said, this place is a delight to visit if you are in the Gandhi Bazaar area. I’m definitely going to eat more often here and I got the cravings to explore more such meals on the leave across the city. Overall rating 4/5 Ratings for reviews 1-No! No! Read moreOur family landed here one fine evening for some snacks. It was quite an unplanned decision - we knew nothing about this place. We just happened to be in Basavanagudi the said day, and were super hungry. This place looked inviting from the outside - a buzzing, small Darshini - and so we headed on in.
We weren't disappointed with the food at all. I tried out a vada dipped in sambar, which was really good. The vada was just right, crisp from the outside and soft from the inside, the Udupi-style sambar bursting with flavour. We got a plate of ghee-drizzled button idlis for my daughter, which were simply lovely too. We also tried out a masala dosa, which was the crisp, fried-in-oodles-of-oil that is common in several Bangalore eateries - none of us are big fans of that, so we didn't like this. The filter coffees that we all had a go at, post our snacks, was well done too, just the right amount of decoction and milk, just the perfect blend of sweet and bitter.
Price-wise, this eatery is quite reasonable.
The eatery might look like a small place from outside, but it is actually quite big. There is ample seating available, both downstairs and upstairs. When we visited, tea-time on a weekend, the place was crowded with patrons, but we were able to find a table immediately.
The service here was not bad, but it does leave a lot more to be desired. The service staff wasn't rude or impolite to us, but were quite lax, quite casual as they went about their daily jobs. A bit more attention to detail would have been...

Food: 5/5 VFM : 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience: 3/5
I think this a great place to go with family for a meal. The traditional and sumptuous " ಬಾಳೆ ಎಲೆ ಆಹಾರ " ("BANANA LEAF MEAL" )
There is nothing much to describe here as it is always experienced better at the place Some highlights are:
Mini Glass Idli : This is a smaller version of the Tumbler Idli but the addition of carrot and ginger gives a delicious flavour
Haalu Obbattu: This is the Kannada Version of the well known Puran Poli served with Saffron Enhanced Milk and Vermicelli Kheer.
The Rasam is to die for.
Millet Bisi Bele Bath : Yes, this sounds as Eccentric as it tastes. The helath of Millets with the smack of a bisi-bele bath.
Finally Not to Forget, The Homely Service of the Staff Who will never Let you get up without a Second Serving of each item on the course. Unlike many of such South Indian Meal Spots,They were never in a hurry to complete and respected the pace of each person's appetite.
This gem of a place situated in Gandhi Bazaar, with a hoarding that doesn't attract much attention means serious business.
USKB is always there to...
