Hyderabad amidst the craze of new trends, new cuisines is one of those cities that still sticks on to legendary eateries no matter what happens. Their bonding of the brand and its food is beyond just flavours.
Helmed by father Srinivas garu to open SriKanya comfort in 2000 with intent to serve authentic Telugu cuisine, the brand has kept loyalty and love of its customers intact and has evolved around various rapid transformations this city has witnessed. Standing as a testimony of perseverance to withstand dynamic competition, SriKanya stands by its roots - simple good - authentic recipe - humble to customers and leave the rest. While father has laid the foundation for this house hold brand in city of Hyderabad, Vizag and Rajamundry, sons Sri Ram and Sri Raj have taken over the brand and its name to innovate and improvise in this tough pandemic times yet not deviating from the classics and roots of this brand to what it is now after 2 decades and still running.
SriKanya, a name that sells for itself is not a new comer in Kondapur but has its loyal following for their spicy yet super delicious chicken fry piece biryani but what I would say is They got much more than that and I was blown away by the varieties they have after having dined recently there.
We started off right away with the spicy array of delicacies which we weren't sure where to start and finish. But my favourite of the night has to be the STUFFED CRAB. Many of us though love crab , hesitate to try it owning due to its difficult nature to eat its meat but this one does the job for you - properly de-shelled , cleaned, quality crab met marinated with spices and slowly cooked and tossed back into the shell, this one will kindle your taste buds on any slumber feel you have - 5/5
KAJU CHICKEN - though sounds very normal, was another addictive starter that I'm sure many Andhra food lovers will connect and is a must try - 5/5
PANDUGAPPA FISH FRY - Also known as bhetki in bengali, kalaanji in malayalam, this one was fiercely spiced and definitely takes your palate for a spice ride . Only for HEAT lovers - 5/5
Apart from their regular dishes, SriKanya RR takes its pride on doing RR style - story being so exciting to hear from the sons by themselves , this is one of their signature dishes that is slow cooked and done with cashew paste and is considered must try.
CHICKEN RR and VEG RR - are must try here and the generous drench of cashews definitely ups the richness - 4/5
PRAWNS FRY & LEMON PANEER - Simple yet hard to make it perfect dishes and both stick to the spices and deliver the intended flavours - 5/5
KEBABS - Guntur kodi kebab,Coconut kodi kebab abd Lemon chilli kodi kebab - all were aptly cooked but the Guntur Kodi kebab gives you that extra spice kick for spicy food lovers - 4/5
CHICKEN FRY PIECE BIRYANI - Top seller - MUST TRY - A subtle and super rich pulao served with fiery chicken fry cooked separately is unique signature of the brand by itself - 4/5
But what caught my eyes, palate and eventually heart was BAMBO CHICKEN BIRYANI & CHICKEN SAMBAR RICE
BAMBOO CHICKEN BIRYANI - cooked and served from a solid healthy bamboo , steamed and cooked, the bamboo juice itself delivers a unique flavour to the biryani and creates a whole new dimension which is to be only tried and experience.
CHICKEN SAMBAR RICE - I know they were known for the ghee dozed sambhar rice but didn't know their chicken sambhar rice is equally addictive and gives you home feel in every bite - 5/5
We finished off with their unique and aptly chilling KAJU LASSI which is a perfect end for such a fiery , delicious, soul filling dinner there. Amidst the crazy pressure to keep things innovative and crazy and attract customers, brands like SRIKANYA proves over 2 decades, good food and good people making it still stands its GROUND every single day and that builds the brand with loyal customers and stand as a...
Read moreI recently visited Sri Kanya in Kondapur and overall I had a mixed but largely positive experience. Here’s a more detailed breakdown of what stood out, what was good, and what could be better. Sri Kanya really delivers when it comes to Andhra & Telangana style cooking. Some of their signature items that impressed me:
I recently had the opportunity to try a variety of dishes, and my experience was a mix of delightful flavors and some overpowering spice levels. Here's a detailed review of the meal:
The fish fry was undoubtedly the highlight of the meal. It was perfectly cooked, with a crispy golden crust that gave way to tender, flavorful fish inside. The seasoning was spot on, striking a fine balance between spices and tangy notes. It was fresh, aromatic, and left me craving more. If you're a seafood lover, this dish is an absolute must-try!
The chicken joint biryani came with its own set of surprises. The rice in the biryani was cooked to perfection—fluffy, fragrant, and infused with rich spices that made every bite enjoyable. However, the chicken leg piece was intensely spicy, which might not be suitable for those who prefer milder flavors. While the heat level may appeal to spice enthusiasts, it could be overwhelming for others.
That said, the overall flavor profile of the biryani was commendable, with a good balance of aromatic spices in the rice. If they could tone down the spice level of the chicken, this dish would be a winner for a wider audience.
The fish fry stole the show with its impeccable preparation and taste. The rice in the biryani also deserves praise for its texture and flavor. The spice level of the chicken leg piece in the biryani needs to be moderated to make it more enjoyable for everyone.
While the fish fry was exceptional and worth revisiting, the overly spicy chicken in the biryani slightly dampened the experience. I would recommend this place for seafood lovers and those who enjoy bold flavors but suggest caution for anyone...
