Let me take a deep breath. This could be the only place where we felt utterly humiliated. Those who want to read the story can continue. Others can skip to the review. After a good time in Fort Kochi, we decided to travel all the way back to Panampilly Nagar. Was a sunny day and we were quite tired. Even though the ratings were below 4, we went ahead with the ‘Aavi plan’. There were couple of families in the restaurant. We settled in the corner table and ordered fresh lime, puttu, porotta, beef ularthiyathu, chicken fry and beef fry. By this time we noticed the left overs on the table that were not cleaned. So we chose another table. Got our fresh limes, puttu, beef ularthiyathu and porottas. We waited for quite sometime for the other dishes. Reminded couple of staffs as well. Tired of waiting, we shared the available dishes. Finally we got a strange bill with chicken fry as a menu item. We mentioned this to the staff. This guy, seemed to be very convinced and confident about the served item. He accused us of lying. I introduced myself with name and my job. There was a phenomenal argument by this aavi staff who, I felt can even convince us that we had chicken fry. By this time another person in the counter intervene and I think he was better aware of what just happened. Finally we pay up. We were frustrated, hungry, disappointed, didn’t get a bill and were labelled liars. THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR ORDINARY PEOPLE LIKE US. PROBABLY CELEBRITIES WILL BE TREATED WELL (IT IS A PROBABILITY)WE HATE THIS PLACE AND DON’T WANT TO CLIMB THOSE STAIRS AGAIN.
The objective review follows. Pros. 👍 Good interiors. 👍 Nice build up till the menu is served. 👍 You get to see all the celebrity photographs while you wait for food. 👍 You’ll get to know what others had, just by looking at the table. 👍 Keeps your weight under check. Good for people in a diet plan. They serve half of what you order. Plus you’ll lose weight by getting rid of some heavy money. 👍 They’ll agree to whatever you say when the order is taken. ( but serve at their own discretion) 👍 Nice steamy climate inside, especially in the afternoon. 👍If you are lucky you will attain salvation or atleast realise your inner self. 👍Very tasty fresh lime ( outsourced from Ootupura)
Cons 👎 Poor cleanliness 👎 Short term amnesia among waiters. 👎 Enough I think. Can’t waste more...
Read moreFood has its way to going deep down beyond one’s imagination and captures the soul within. It is available in different forms and few, and it is one’s individual taste which decides if a particular cuisine is preferred or not.
Be it authentic, modern or traditional, every kitchen manages to leave a memorable mark in the minds of people all over with its taste. And for few lucky ones, every kind of cuisine seems to be impressive without distinction of any sort.
Kochi is quite broad-minded when it comes to food. Though the city has developed in lot many aspects, it has no plans in giving up its taste for traditional food. Along with the various kinds of continental and modern cuisines that it offers, the city also seems to have a lot of food destinations serving excellent traditional food. The rising number of hotels concentrating on such cuisines indicates an example to this.
The Aavi Restaurant at Panampilly Nagar, above Gokul Oottupura, is one such fine dining restaurant which serves traditional delights for its customers. One gets the feel of Kerala right when you step into this innovative restaurant.
The bamboo walls, warm colored ceilings and the use of typical ancient style table and desk for dining makes this place stand out from the rest, also making it highly appealing and welcoming.
The uniqueness of this food destination does not end with its ambiance alone. The finger licking delicacies and combos are the other reasons why this place is quite popular among Kochite’s. Its menu offers categories like aavi appangal, aavi karikal, aavi specials, etc. to name a few, among which each group comprises of at least ten options to serve. From pure varieties of puttu and appam, Aavi also serves mouth-watering main course items...
Read moreMouth watering Ila Pothi Malabar Erachi Choru.🍽️ ‘A nostalgic cuisine from God’s own country’, ‘A nostalgic journey to our childhood days’. Google ‘pothichoru’ and those lines pop up. What is it about the pothichoru that whets your appetite and makes your mouth water at the very mention of it? Perhaps, the magic lies in its simplicity – hot, steamed rice and curries, chutneys and pickles wrapped in slightly toasted banana leaves ( vattiya ila in local parlance). That was how many people in Kerala used to pack a taste of home to take to schools, colleges and workplaces a long time ago. Remember that appetising aroma that wafts up when you open it during lunch time? Somehow the same meals packed in sterile lunch boxes never taste the same. Perhaps that is why there are many takers for this homely meal packed in banana leaves. Nostalgia is the other name for this food parcel. But now this common man’s all-in-one lunch packet is going places, having become an integral part of the menu of many upmarket hotels and restaurants. The pothichoru served in restaurants packs a surprise as each is different. It is a guessing game for hungry customers. Usually, it is simple fare: rice, a vegetable dish (a thoran), a curry, an omelette or a fish fry and a pickle or chutney. A pappadam is a luxury. But the elaborate pothichoru that one gets at the restaurants leaves you spoilt for choices. The taste lies in the slightly toasted...
