New Restaurant: Check. Adequate Parking: Check. Décor: Check. No wait. The decor is a bit halfhearted at best. Polished vitrified tiles used to emulate Italian marble while stained fake wood panels are used to denote a richness of feel that goes all wrong due to the cheap materials used. Besides it makes the interiors look a bit dark. The seats by themselves are comfortable but the choice of blue suede/velvet as a covering will surely be of great regret to the owners of the establishment, considering how many spills and food drops it will have to sustain into the future. Surely, the owners are not hoteliers but yet another group of people wanting to cash in on the eating out culture in Kochi. Onto the food then. I was accompanied by my 3 yr old and all he wanted was penne pasta in arabiatta sauce which I gladly placed with one of three individuals who was manning the restaurant at the time(grossly understaffed). I had specifically asked them to prepare the arabbiata sauce without any chilies but what was brought was something that tasted like chilly sauce pretending to be arabiatta sauce. Needless to say he spent half his time in the restaurant sipping on water. I had also ordered what looked very interesting on the description as Char Grilled fish with spaghetti aglio olio. That was brought very late(midway between my son fighting to finish his spicy pasta). What was supposed to be fish looked like a lump of some alien flesh and the spaghetti was undercooked(al dente if you please) but I should have been asked if I prefer it like the Italians. The bean sauce at the bottom of the pasta turned out to be nothing to write home about and the orange juice we ordered was as good as dessert. I have experienced juice stands on the street prepare these better. All in all, not a great experience due to the fact that the place is not planned out properly. I would go back to Cocoa Tree for their food and hope that one day these guys will get their act together. We do need more such places in Kochi but with better service, food and perhaps even the ambience. Oh, and the stewards had no uniforms so it was hard to guess who was serving and who...
Read moreDownTown Cafe, evening hunting. It's quite a place to enjoy and hang out. I came to this cafe in a state of hopelessness, I was just planning on getting out for the crazy day and wanted to go somewhere with a nice ambience. When I got to the area it was posh and clean, the shops mashed together in a unique disarray, Approaching the cafe I saw that the exterior contrasted its surroundings.
Great place to sit down grab one of their healthy juices and read one of the inspiring books that they have. The menu has a great selection of items that although more expensive than other places is well worth it due to the service and the ambience.
It's remarkable really but within a 30 minutes of sitting here, reading the stories, watching the people and taking in the atmosphere It was so new and fresh atmosphere. But surprise, the food is also great and I ordered a lot of stuff! The best part is that if you suggest any improvement to a dish, they take it seriously, never needed stuff was so good.
That's how nice and dedicated they are. Never felt so nice, Do drop in and enjoy their hospitality while reading a book. It's DownTown Cafe 7 Near Avenue Centre, Panampilly Nagar, great connectivity...
Read moreMy friend adviced me to try out this cafe and it was worth it. We ordered for the crunchy cocktail shrimp, pasta escalope, lasagne, bbq chicken steak, watermelon & passion fruit mojito as in the picture. Be it luck or the cafe everything tasted absolutely yummy.
My personal favourites were the shrimp, pasta & passionfruit mojito. The cocktail shrimp was flavourful & tasted almost like the dynamic shrimps from PF Chang's (which is the best). A little more sauce to it would replicate the dish. Now who wouldn't love a bowl of cheesy pasta with thin crispy chicken fillets. Spot on with the flavours in the sauce. Passionfruit Mojito was the best choice to wash down the palate for the next dish. It was fresh and fizzy!
Bbq steak was served with a decent amount of creamy mashed potatoes and veggies. Both the sweetness from the bbq sauce and spice from the pepper did compliment each other. Journey to lasagne was pretty difficult as we had all got food drunk by then. But it did taste yummy too. The only thing that stood a bit behind was the watermelon mojito as it did taste a bit syrup like. All of this for a little...
