My 1st time in Fort kochi , disappointed much that I chose this place. Primarily due to the Rude arrogant owner jos who was also the server cum cook with an axe to grind !! He greeted me with rude obnoxious "questioning" attitude about the Sindoor tikka on my forehead . i had the kumkum tikka as I had just come from Matancherry palace Durga temple.. but this character instead of taking my .order..was acting rude n abusive about my personal relegious belief. After carefully deflecting several questions about my red bindi ..I ordered as he suggested ,however Rocket salad was drowning in strawberry syrup which he seems to have plenty of and a small bowl of poor quality arugula leaves was Rs 350, pizza was equally dissapointing, and the pannacota dessert was dense and heavy like condensed icing not a light souffle again drowning in sugary strawberry preserve
Adding injury to.insult of eating substandard food was this owner Jos"s assumption that i had never eaten a Panna Cota dessert ever in my plebian life!!
When I told him politely he needn't crow about his substandard dessert as I was a globally travelled Corporate executive.. since i was 23!! and exposed to global cusines he immediately n rudely like an inquisition again began talking inventory of which corporates i had worked for... n added ah now i was 53.. and not 23 alluding to my advanced old age n battered self with no provocation.to talk about my age my career or my relegious symbolism
a strange rude man , i paid my bill n left after meeting by far the most obnoxious restruant owner in Fort Kochi...
pls avoid if u want a plesant dining experience. why did I pay to be anywhere near such a rude insulting...
Read moreI can't recommend this place at all. The word "authentic" might has to be re-defined in the dictionary. Even the "large" pizza had been the smallest (max 20 cm, small max 15 cm) I've ever received in an "Italian restaurant", probably among 150 different ones in my life. The cheese was too fatty, and the pesto completely burned (dark black) didn't taste like pesto at all.
The food "tasted even more bitter" considering the horrendous prices of up to 10€ (!!!) for a tiny pizza with baked "prosciutto", good Italian ham should NEVER be baked on a pizza. That's more then I've ever paid in Europe for sich a tiny pizza.
The music was old American music from the 80s and 90s on an unbearable volume killing the rest of the atmosphere. When we sat at our table, they started to smoke-out mosquitos AND us as breathing mammals for 5 min, insane.
At least the waiter was kindhearted and delivered good service, despite the fact...
Read moreI ate here twice during my time in Kochi and was impressed. It may be a little more expensive than some places, but the food is very good. I had a veg pasta and salad on first visit. Pasta was tasty and cooked properly, and while the salad was simple carrot and lettuce, the vegetables were fresh and topped with a very tasty dressing. Second visit I had a veg pizza and another salad. It is so nice to occasionally find proper pizza in India. People who have left reviews saying you can get better pizza at Domino's, obviously know nothing about pizza. The pizzas here at Upstairs are much closer to authentic Italian pizza than I've had almost anywhere in India. Once again the salad on my second visit was simple lettuce and tomato, but once again a home made dressing topped it well. The staff and management were all very efficient and helpful. Well done, I'll definitely be back on my next...
