King’s Bakery on Southern Avenue is the kind of place that feels like an exhale in the midst of South Kolkata’s bustle—a retreat where the aroma of freshly baked goods drifts gently through a space that is both modern and quietly soulful. There’s a serenity here, with soft light pouring in, muted chatter at nearby tables, and an easy kindness in the way the staff serve you. During my visit, I chose the choux pastry, a slice of chocolate pastry, and a cappuccino. The choux pastry was delicate, its airy shell cradling a filling that was light yet indulgent—almost disappearing too quickly. The chocolate pastry was rich but carefully balanced, offering depth without heaviness, like a bittersweet note that lingers fondly. The cappuccino tied it all together: bold at first sip, then mellow, the kind of coffee that encourages slow conversation and unhurried thought. What makes King’s Bakery memorable though is not only the food but the feeling. There’s no rush here, no insistence on turning tables quickly; instead, there’s room to linger, to savor, to simply enjoy being present. For those who seek more than just dessert—for those who wish to taste quiet comfort—King’s Bakery is a gentle haven in the city.

I visited King's Bakery on a sweet evening famished. Upon arriving I was not very impressed by the ambience, it felt quite stuffy inspite of the plexiglass walls overlooking the streets of Gariahat. The place was well arranged. I ordered a Yuzu tea (hot) for myself and my sister ordered a green apple mojito which was served with thin slices of red apple šŸ˜…. The yuzu tea was really refreshing. It was sweet and tangy at the same time. A very good start. After that we ordered a nonveg gimbap (with imitation Crab, chicken sausage and veggies) and mildly spicy tteokbokki with eomuk (fishcake) Both the food items were cooked well and had a Korean appropriate flavor. I was impressed by the food. But I love the yuzu tea the most out of the food. Korean cuisine is not meant for all palates. It's a unique cuisine that caters to the geographical location it has and thus the food will taste a little different and it is always better to appreciate it than criticise. Kings Bakery does a splendid job in representing the taste of a completely different country and I highly recommend you visit them for their huge Bakery collection and beverages if you do not like Korean cuisine.

First of all, King's Bakery is not the first nor will it be the last establishment to offer korean cuisine - riding the hallyu wave that is taking the world by storm in recent years. As such, the fact that the place is owned by a Korean and offers 'authentic korean cuisine' should not be just a name tag but a reality. The Park Circus branch offers food good enough for its price but the Hindustan Park branch leaves much to be desired . The food was horrible. Plain and simple.

Coffee. The most basic thing. We ordered an Iced Cafe Mocha. A sweet drink. But instead, the coffee was not sweet. There was no hint of sugar in it. If simple details such as sugar in a SWEET drink is not there then one can only pray for the rest of the food. Dakganjeong chicken. Sweet and spicy fried saucy chicken. What we got? Soft soggy chicken that was too sweet. No spice. It tasted bad. It was a disappointment Jajang ramyeon and Bibimyeon ramyeon. Jajang ramyeon had no flavour no taste. The sauce was only there for colouring. It has no salt no spice no sweet and nutty flavour of the jajang sauce. In other words, it was like having a bowl of brown boiled noodles. No salt. The bibimyeon ramyeon, which is just noodles with gochujang sauce and sauted/chopped vegetables and egg that should have been a saving grace was instead, sweet, lacked spice and flavour, had a speck of carrots and cucumber and HALF a boiled egg.

King's Bakery is no king. It's trash parading around as royalty. If opening up branches and expanding means quality is forgotten for quantity, then I can't help but pity the state that the...
