I am a regular. But today was a very bad experience and has left a bad taste in my mouth.I had vegetarian guests from overseas and they wanted to eat at Ayub’s. As it was raining heavily, I drove over to pack some paneer rolls as delivery could not be done due to rains and distance (about 10-12 miles). I specifically told the server to pack the rolls and make them spicy and to also pack the 2 chutneys (the tamarind and the green chillies) separately. When I reached home, I immediately unpacked the rolls and realised that they had packed 2 packets of tamarind chutney and the green chilly chutney was missing. My poor polite guests just took a bite and then left their rolls on their plate. They partaked the other food/snacks placed before them. I was surprised. After they left, I checked the remainings and then saw the dry and hard chapati, no chutney, no onions and hardly any paneer cubes in the rolls. Also I got a faint scent of chicken. I was embarrassed and figured why my polite guests had left the paneer rolls unfinished. I dumped the unfinished pieces in the bin. I called them and spoke to some guy called RIYAZ who just said SORRY! I want people to think before they eat, especially vegetarian people as Ayub’s is overhyped, expensive and overrated. They were so casual about their error, as if it takes place regularly. I would give them a...
Read moreTo any tourists visiting Ayubs, it's not representative of Mumbai Street food. Miniscule portion size and bang average tasting food served for the prices charged. Got served maybe 100 gms of boneless chicken bhuna plate for 320 bucks which is absolutely ridiculous. the bhuna was some random gravy and not even bhunaoed. The mutton baida roti had hardly any mutton and only potatoes. Atrocious.
It used to be really really good a decade back. As an owner, unless the chef died or something, you would absolutely not want to let go of the recipes and the expertise. Now I remember The Big Forkers epsiode where they were supposed to compare it to other joints serving similar food but they refused to rate this place because it was not even in the same ball park as others.
Not sure how old the joint is but the current generation running this place can't rest on their past laurels, they need to wake up and smell the coffee as the competition in food space is heating up and there are so many hungry for succes food joints happening around the world.
Another garbage joint is...
Read moreThis place has been top 10 from my nostalgic childhood memories. I remember from the time they started, my father would take us there after watching a movie to have the most delicious mushroom & corn tikkas, grilled potato tikkas and panner tikkas satiating our taste buds in every way post a long movie night. However, as much as I yet assure of the quality here, the quantity is disappointing to see at every visit I make once in every 2-3 months here. It seems to reduce and the prices soaring. On complaining, nobody cares, infact the servicers agree when you tell them about the disheartening quantity only to tell you that nothing can be done. Today I rate it two, because as much as I enjoy this place, I know there are many places that offer the same rolls, tikkas and the likes of the same quality at much lower prices and better service even.
