Visited the place first time on Saturday 5/02/22 at around 1:40 afternoon, got a table at around 2:20 after a long wait due to a queue. Ordered a beef steak with potato wedges, fish curry rice, surmai fry, & apricot custard. Our order arrived in 15-20 mins, now getting to the taste, the beef steak was unevenly cooked as some parts of it was like chewing bubble gum. Only tasty part of the steak was the potato wedges & fried onion topping. Next the fish curry was average, it was a tad bit on the salty side, though the fish piece in the curry was very nice. Moving on to the Surmai fry which was very disappointing since it lacked flavour & spice. It wasas tasting only of a light chili powder rub & nothing else, ended with apricot custard, it was ok for the price, taste was nothing to write about. The service was painfully slow as there was just one person manning the cash, taking orders, cleaning up & serving, probably had a staff issue going on that day, but he was doing a great job though single handedly. The other bright side of the afternoon than the lone staff there for me personally was an old parsi couple whom we accomodated on our table & they had just walked in sweating, shaking & panting in the hot sun, they were in their late 80s or even more possibly, otherwise wouldn't have got a seat until closure. We got chatting & nedless to mention their typical Parsi humour, we had a good conversation. They had ordered long before they reached the hotel yet their order was not ready to serve. We left at 3:00 yet they were still waiting. Most of the dishes were sold before we ordered. Lastly though it was not a very memorable food experience taste wise, but price wise very reasonable. I think I'll go back to try some more stuff as everything was practically over this time. If chefs are overburdened then quality deteriorates for sure, the lines between flavorful food, quality,& commercial temptations are very fine & get blurred...

If you're someone who believes in judging a book by its cover, the New Martin Hotel in Colaba will hit the nail on the head. Would gladly rate it 4 stars overall, but when it comes to the Pork Vindaloo, it’s an absolute show-stealer – easily a 5-star dish in its own right.
The place isn’t much to look at – the walls that have seen stories and stools that don’t stay empty for long. But if your priority is authentic taste over Instagram aesthetics, you’re in the right place.
This old-school Goan eatery may fly under the radar, but it packs a serious punch in the kitchen.
The Pork Vindaloo is the real deal – spicy, tangy, tender, and full of depth. Every bite hits the spot, and you can tell it’s a recipe that’s stood the test of time. Other classics like Meat Fry and Fish Curry aren’t far behind either.
Service is quick as a flash, prices are pocket-friendly, and though the setting may feel like stepping back in time, the food ensures your experience is one for the books.
All in all, it's a hidden gem that proves great food doesn’t always come with white...

There are other popular choice items such as fish Curry, vindaloo preparations, sausages etc. If you love or are missing Goan prep food you can go for the second list. Other wise don't miss the Must haves. Steak - check if you ok with the meat. If you are a foodie and in Mumbai then you cannot miss New Martins. It's an old place, been the same for ages. It's a small one room, with bench type seating. Menu will be written with chalk on a black board 😄. As and when items get sold out they put a cross at the end or now rub it off. And it does sell out pretty fast. During my early days in Mumbai, when I used to stay in colaba, I used to rush to new Martins as early as I could to have their steak and custard before the dreaded "X" appears. They serve one of the best custard (not caramel ) in Mumbai....
