The dining experience at jia the oriental kitchen left me craving for more from the chain and so I decided to hit up at the kuai kitchen, the casual dining restaurant from the same chain. This is a small, quaint place opened up in place of sufra, with a very street style decor, graffiti on most walls and just sufficiently lit. Surprisingly full on a Thursday night, I was lucky to get a table without waiting. Extremely helpful staff and I was handed the menu almost as soon as I made myself comfortable. The only thing I was slightly disappointed at, was their portion size, however the taste made up for it.
Truffle Edmami dumpling and prawn chive dumpling They just make very good dumplings, truffle edmami was good with the garlicy tinge over powering other flavors. The prawn chive was better though, fresh tender prawns in steaming hot dumplings with the mild chive flavoring.
Crispy crab wantons and crunchy California roll I like the way they call the sushi a roll. It's because of them I have started liking sushi. The outermost rice layer of the roll was lightly crisp, that's where it got its name from. The accompanying sauce drizzled across the plate was blending really well with the tastes of the layers within. And for the first time ever, I liked a Wasabi! The crispy crab wanton was fried wantons stuffed with soft fresh crabmeat that's been lightly marinated with basic spices.
Lemon honey pepper prawns and dynamic prawns. The lemon honey pepper prawns was the best dish on our table from all courses. Perfectly cooked prawns tossed lightly in honey, coarsely ground pepper corns and lemon. I can't express what a deadly combination that is, Brownie points to the chef for this one! The dynamic prawns though was batter fried prawns tossed generously in mustard and mayo. So it's basically creamy and mustardy, order it only if you're ur a fan of mustard.
Stepping to the main course we called for Chicken and mushroom pot rice Very basic in all its mildness, the pot had rice with a lot of mushrooms (both regular button and the black ones) and some chicken in it. One of the best pot rice I've had in a while.
Kuai special prawns The meal was full of prawns and undoubtedly they have really fresh prawns and know how to cook it well. It was more like a chili dry base blended into the prawns and tastes delicious.
Dice tenderloin truffle oil. Exactly what the name suggests. Tenderly cooked meat wok tossed dry with veggies and mushrooms.
Chinese green with black mushrooms This was just like the pot rice, left us with the same base and a lot of mushrooms on the plate, the broccoli was oozing flavors and cooked to such perfection with the crunch left in it.
Fish chili oil and spring onion Only if I knew they cook the fish better than the prawns, there would be more fish on the table. These were diced chunks of basa pan seared and drizzled generously with chili oil and spring onions. The melt in the mouth basa was indeed a carrier of a lot of flavors.
Other things on the table were Dragon daiquiry and lychee margarita They make good mock tails. Both the drinks were well made, I really wish they could have place for a bar. For a place that makes good mock tails, would've surely made very good cocktails as well.
Chocolate wanton and nutty banana and Nutella cake Such a lovely meal must end in a spoonful of sweet and we called for the nutty banana and Nutella cake. Very soft Grandmama's chocolate cake drizzled with Nutella and few slices of caramelized banana served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. The perfect dessert I'd call it! On the staff recommendation we also called for the chocolate wanton but that was strictly ok. Just fried wantons with a thin late of chocolate coating inside it, only if there could be some surprise inside it, it...
Read moreKuai Kitchen - compact QSR situated at colaba. Small place with a big heart. Comes from the stables who have given us Royal China and Jia. This place can be called a delivery outlet at the same time it has a sitting of about 20.

We had a lovely meal yesterday - apart from one dish which was the Kung Pao chicken stuck to the vegetarian.
Dim sums - Truffle edamame dumplings and Water chestnuts and corn dumplings - both had a wonderful texture - served piping hot. Outer layer was thin and the stuffing was just perfect. Truffle stood out with it's aroma and Water chestnut with corn had carrots/ celery/corn/water chestnuts - crunchy and sweet. Lovely start.
Sushi - 6 pieces Avocado Maki roll - Done well. Nice presentation. Subtle in flavour. made Fresh with a bit of Mayo. Overall a nice dish which goes well with wasabi and ginger.
SZECHUAN Edamame - something different. Steamed edamame with szechuan sauce ( just a bit ) gives that punch. Interesting take. Balance perfect.
Turnip Cake with Chili Oil - Basically a chinese dim dum made of radish and plain flour. Fried served with onions/garlic/celery/ginger- overall a lovely dish. Must try. Looks like paneer ( texture ) tastes better.
Kung Pao Chicken - expected to be dry. This came with the gravy , went well with burnt garlic rice. Bell pepper/red chilies/ soy/onions/tomato - overall a nice dish. Maybe a bit more of chicken would have been better.
Burnt Garlic Rice - just loved the quantity and the the quality. Got the flavour and the punch of what it said. Do order when at Kuai.
Kuai Special mixed vegetables with Soya Chili garlic sauce - another subtle dish went well with burnt rice. Clever use of seasonal veggies. Broccoli/mushrooms/bell pepper/water chestnut/carrots tossed in soy sauce served piping hot with a bit of garlic and chili sauce. Also used Pokchoy giving a refreshing look. Overall good.
Szechuan Noodles - wow loved it. Went well with the sauces which were given at the start. Chili oil. extra Szechuan sauce. Quantity was perfect for 2. Done just well.
Desserts :
Mudcake with vanilla ice cream. If they say its made in house - hats off to them. nailed it.
Chocolate Kuai pie ( Hope i got this dessert correct ) It's basically Dim sums filled with rice chocolate. Served like a sim dum. Can get messy but once you start. can't stop. Not very sweet. Do go for this. Lovely.
Overall experience -
This concept is good. Everything under one roof. Heard their Non vegetarian is also good. Till next time , cheers -...

Asparagus Tempura Roll
A vegetarian sushi roll which consists of asparagus tempura and some in house sauces. It was presented in way which made it look like a dragon. One suggestion the quantity of sauces which they used should be a little more. ORDER IT!

Crazy Cream Roll
My most favorite sushi will always be a Cream Cheese Roll Sushi, it has Blanched Asparagus, Avocado and lots of Cream Cheese in it. The quantity is perfect and the taste is outstanding. Also this one had a LOT of Cream Cheese in it and who doesn't like more Cheese? ORDER IT!

Avocado Maki Roll
This one was similar to a Cream Cheese Roll instead of Cream Cheese it had their in house sauce in it along with Avocado. This one was also a very good vegetarian sushi. Same thing here as well the quantity of the sauce should be a little more. This depends on everyone's preference, I like more sauce in it.

Sesame Potato Toast
This is nothing but the potato mash from a popular south Indian dish Masala Dosa. This mash is added to a Toast and it is topped with a lot of sesame seeds. You can skip this one.

Salt & Pepper Baby Corn with Mushroom
Baby Corn and Mushroom Tempura seasoned with salt and pepper and garnished with finely chopped and sauteed garlic, green onions, red chillies. This went well with Honey Chilli sauce.

Paneer Hot Garlic Sauce
This is a main course dish, it has very less gravy and can be called a semi gravy dish. The Paneer which was used was very good but the hot garlic sauce had a sweet taste to it, which was a little different from the normal hot garlic sauce.

Thai Red Curry with Steamed Rice
Very Authentic Thai Red Curry, the coconut flavor in it was a little too strong for me. The quantity is enough for 2 people. The Rice served along with it was cooked to perfection.

Desserts?
No, there aren't any desserts for vegetarian people here. All their desserts contain Egg.
This place is unique as it delivers sushi which very few people do and the fact that there are no desserts for vegetarians that, is disappointing. Please do add some eggless desserts because if a sushi can be made vegetarian then why not desserts?
