People were nice. Price was too high for the bleak, hard beds that will put you spine out of place. I know you are living the refresh if your earlier visits but this and probably a fair few others in Colaba can be given the big miss-o!|It will be exactly the same as you remember. And now you're in your 50s so go for some comfort.|I think from a Mumbai perspective that Colaba is a fairly low bar in terms of challenge. But it's also inconvenient, the traffic is a disaster on wheels. Is there a road between the Worli exit that isn't dug up? |It's all a work in progress and Mumbai was never meant to exist so make the most of it. I think the main reason for a visit to Mumbai is markets and food. The markets may be good but who cares if it's just the same hassle or worse than you've had throughout your trip? I think there are fashion bargains and good stuff especially for women and for gifts but meh. It's just not worth the pain. |The pain starts at the surface of the bed and continues throughout the day. Hot days, the place is better in the evening. |Mumbai is a victim of its own press. Chowpatty is nasty. Marine parade is swathed in the soup of smog that is so bad that climbing to 35kFeet on my way out I saw that hidden inside it were actual clouds. You just can't see them, the grime rises so high. |Street food...a lentil vada in a bad bread roll is not good. Bhel Puri can be in found in a range of places. Mumbai sandwich comprises little of interest and a load of the terrible cheese that is an imitation of Kraft processed. |Restaurants: all pricey except the ones you don't know about. Those ones are actually delivering good Indian fare. But Mumbai is obsessed with imitation. Imitation KFC, pizza, burgers. We had imitation eggs Ben at Theobroma. Good. For what it's worth but why? If I want that I'll go home and if Mumbai's folk want that well then...I'm not sure why. You take an amazing multicultural food, cuisine and culinary heritage and seek this US swill. Let's remind ourselves that the Americans wouldn't know good food if they made a reality TV show about it (yes, that's irony). |So why am I in Colaba? I genuinely do not know except that it's on the way South. |Why am I at the Bentley's Hotel? I also don't know, picked following reviews on one of these sites. I've stayed in places like this before. I recognize the hard beds. I thought the floors and bathroom basics were good though overall. There is an old time lift (watch your head if you're over 5'10") and there was hot water always. But it's Mumbai and you need cool showers. |The people running it did their best. The laundry was really cheap but then they returned it damp, miscounted the number of clothes and lost things. We refused to pay even though it wasn't much. This has never happened to us in India before ever!|The local area has everything you might want and is easy to negotiate unless you need to drive anywhere. Wander the nearby fruit and veg markets. There were good kebab rolls at the Juice Stall (it's in all the apps and sites). |When setting off for a 1pm flight you need to get up at 6! Don't try getting the front desk to pre-book a taxi. But go down 20 mins early to get that done. Leave 1 Hr 20 for the drive. It shouldn't take that long but it can. For domestic flights be there two hours prior.|Most slick security airport experience I have had in India to date that though. Beautiful...
Read moreIf you feel like wasting your time Hotel Aga Begs is for you! ||||We booked a room for one night. Upon arrival we were told the room charge was 2,800 quite a jump from the booking price of 1,536.64 including tax that we had booked through Booking.com. ||||Unbeknownst to us, the booking had been cancelled. They said they had tried to call us to advise of the cancellation but we hadn’t answered. Our missed calls showed they had called one hour prior to our arrival when we were on the flight to Mumbai. This call was made at about 1.30 in the afternoon, so well after check in time. There had been no further follow up calls. ||||When I asked why the room had been cancelled they told me it was because the price was too low. I asked why they had listed at this price if it was not a high enough price for them. They couldn’t answer this question just continued to insist I pay the higher price. At no stage did they apologise for the inconvenience they had caused. ||||They obviously had a room available, but were unwilling to honour the price on the booking we had made. ||||They told us to call Booking.com but the problem was with them cancelling the booking not with Booking.com so I really have no idea what they thought Booking.com were going to do about it. ||||When I looked online they have rooms available for other dates at this lower price. I’m guessing this is their unscrupulous way they do business, preying on the fact many people just pay the higher amount when they arrive as it’s too difficult to find something else at short notice. Reading other reviews online this is not the first time this has happened and I’m sure it won’t be the last. ||||We were lucky it was the middle of the day when we arrived, I can’t imagine what it would be like if you arrived late in the evening and they did this to you. ||||We wasted over an hour of our day walking around the streets trying to find another hotel at short notice. As luck would have it, we found one which was of a much higher standard for a more reasonable price so, aside from the inconvenience of a wasted afternoon, it was a good result for us. ||||I would not recommend booking this hotel if you want to be sure there will be a room available for you at the price you booked...
Read moreLocation: Full marks for location. Right on marine drive, very next to Wankhede Stadium entrance. Commute to Gateway of India and railway station (CSMT or Churchgate) was easy. getting cabs/taxis were not at all a problem. Could just cross the road to relax next to the sea. Check-in: Check in process was hassle-free, verifying the documents (ID proof) till room transfer happened within 5 minutes with key card and Wi-Fi password handed over. Staffs took care of carrying the luggages from ground to 3rd floor where hotel reception and rooms were. look wise, you may not like the building from outside, however please don't go by the Outlook, this hotel is awesome from inside. very neat and clean as soon as you step inside the lobby. Guy at reception was kind enough to allot me bigger size room considering 2 kids I travelled with. After we entered the room, we were delighted to see the window opening facing the sea. About the facility: entire facility was very clean. Reception, walkway, rooms all were pretty neat and clean. Walls having beautiful paintings added to the beauty of the place. Room provided to us was very spacious with comfortable bed and other furnitures. Toilet was clean, geyser working perfectly. Coffee maker and Fridge available in the room. Staff behaviour: Full marks for behaviour of staffs. Security, reception, service staffs were all very well behaved and courteous. My special thanks to kitchen staffs for considering our request of serving early breakfast than regular schedule as we had early check out in morning. Big thanks for this gesture especially when I was travelling with kids, it really helped. Food quality: Complementary breakfast served (room service) was really good, very hygienic and tasty. tea served was very good too. Facility: Coming back to facility again as I must mention about the complementary foot massage and back massage chairs placed in the lobby which is free of cost. More than those being free, it was important that those were easily accessible all the time. It was relaxing to use them after tiring day.
Overall, had really lovely experience staying at Bentley, will surely...
