Tucked in a narrow, busy, crowded lane of Fort is this place which serves very yummy Punjabi [or Amritsari cuisine to be specific]. Their claim that they have been to the by-lanes of Amritsar and learnt the nuts & bolts of the cuisine isn’t an exaggeration.
This restaurant resembles a modern day Dhaba with better seating [read a proper table & chair instead of charpai]. Some lively Punjabi music keeps playing the background. One side of the restaurant is lined with pots protruding from the walls and painted in bright shades. Other side has some graffiti lifted straight out of a Dhaba. The walls are lined with paintings, pencil sketches, Punjabi musical instruments and the most important relic is one of the symbol of the Khalsa, the Sword & Shield. To some up the ambience, I would say it’s vibrant & lively.
I have visited this restaurant on 2 occasions and came out a satisfied customer each time. Once I had been here specifically for the Sarson da Saag & during my 2nd visit they were celebrating the upcoming Holi festival with a Holi Special Thali.
MUSHROOM CHEESE MELT: This is a MUST-HAVE when you visit this place. The mushrooms are spot on in terms of freshness and chunkiness. The mushrooms are stuffed with a spicy mixture and then baked with a good quality cheese. The end result is a dish which lives true to its title.
SARSON KA SAAG This is a winter specialty from the Punjab or North India. It’s slow cooked to perfection with a medley of various greens though not entirely in mustard oil. The clientele in Mumbai may not like the after taste of mustard oil. I found the dish to be slightly on the oily side but to hell with the extra oil if the end result is yummy and it indeed was. RECOMMENDED
MAKKE DI ROTI Sarson ka Saag is incomplete without Makke Di Roti, made from flour of corn and baked slightly crisp.
HOLI SPECIAL THALI:
THANDAI A cold & soothing beverage to beat the Mumbai summer made by mixing milk with a paste of dry fruits, fennel seeds, black pepper . The Thandai was very nice replete with the spicy after taste of the fennel seeds & black pepper.
MUTTER SAMOSA Mini Samosa made with a stuffing of fresh green peas. It was very nice.
DAHI BHALLE The dahi used was fresh, thick and sweet. I felt the Wada used ought to be been soaked in warm water for some more time. It was slightly hard to break and eat.
BHINDI DO PYAAZA This veggie was a lovely medley of decently fried medley and onions.
CHHOLE As authentic as it gets, Chhole was mind blowing and was slightly spicy just as I like it.
PUNJABI PAKODA KADHI Tangy, spicy and thick Kadhi with a well soaked pakoda.
ALOO KULCHA This one was the star of the meal, probably one of the places in Mumbai which serve a very good Kulcha. The stuffing was generous and baked to perfection. I could drop-in to this restaurant to just hog on Paratha’s or Kulcha’s. RECOMMENDED
MALPUA Soft and delectable, soaked properly in flavoured sugar syrup. It was lonely without its usual partner; Rabdi.
Service is with a smile & fast. They will leave you alone for some time, allowing you to decide your order. They will check with you if you are ready to order & then approach your table. While doing all this, they will be efficiently attending to other customers as well. Suggestions are forthcoming about specialty or even portion sizes. Super happy with the service orientation.
On the price parameter, they score very good points. The prices are value for money, within a normal range & not over the top. The quality of ingredients used is also top notch.
These guys have got their act right from the word Go; the taste, the ingredients, the service, the menu the quantum of butter / oil used in the food etc right hence got their Punjabiyat correct. Please keep your calorie counter with the doorman and step-in.
All I can say is OYE KAKE, TUSSI KAMAAL KARR DITTA!

Read moreBefore you go to this no star road side place, please check the menu price of Aurika, by lemon Tree, Mirasa Restaurant all day dining, You would be paying the same price for the food and not wages, in Aurika, Mirasa, as compared to the price you would pay in this Road side joint Oye Kake at Fort, Mumbai. LemonTree Aurika is a NEW 5 star property.
OYE KAKE Very Exhorbitantly Price, cannot co relate price and food to the fort road side opened Oye Kake Joint. If you want your hard earned money to be spent for the staff wages as compared to almost 2 Parle Glucose biscuits size portion, be prepared to shove out 350 for basics, and 500++ Alacart main veg. Cramped up space, hardly a inch and a half wooden partition between two tables. You can easily look and listen to neighbors sitting on the next table. Oh And off course, yours and theirs elbows banging each other while eating , sitting and chatting. This is not the kind of place I would want to give my business again. This is neither a restaurant or a hotel. Its money spinning establishment. Now I want to expose the smartness the staff did to me. On every table they put the Bisleri Himalaya Vedica 1 liter mineral water bottle, 125 Rupees. The restaurant gets it at a cheaper rate. And it was charged to our bill for 125 Rupees. While leaving, after our Dinner, I kept the Himalaya Vedica bottle and bag together on one of the 2 tables we were booked on. I had to accompany my father to wash room( Now again note, the wash room is so dangerous for Sr. Citizen, there is no steps or handle. Its a steep elevated level toilet)when I returned from the wash room on my way out I saw my bag was on another table and the bottle was on another table. The staff did this separation. I don't know the logic behind why the staff did it, but it clearly meant that the staff charged me for it but they did not want me to take the bottle, and so while I was away from the table, they tried to play this trick on me by separating my Bag and Bottle, on the two tables that we were booked on. So it looked like the bottle is on one table and the bag is on another table besides the table on which the bottle was kept. I don't think anyone would want to go to give Wages to such a establishment. Strictly a No No, Don't go to Oye Kake Fort. Are you going to buy your food there or simply going there to pay the Exhorbitant staff wages. The menu is so Exhorbitantly priced. Its prohibitive. They are taking out the wages from the price of the menu items. Should we be going to such places and paying for it??? Stay away from this joint, period. Why does food have to be almost 3 times costly, is there gold and diamonds in the food. We simply shell out what they ask. The day we consumers start questioning a nd demanding the right price, quality, quantity, that day all this nonsense will stop and we...
Read moreOye Kake Located in the streets of Fort and is at a walkable distance from CSMT as well as Churchgate Railway Station. Oye Kake delivers extraordinary Vegetarian Food offering North Indian Cuisine. As a hardcore Non Vegetarian, this place is in my list of just a few Veg Restaurants which I really love from the bottom of my heart. They serve love and food on a plate. Well about Oye Kake, its a small restaurant, with around 8 seating tables available, its quite a hustle during my afternoon visit as many people love the amazing food served here. They have a few serving staff which makes it convenient. The ambience is pretty decent as a family restaurant should be. And hygiene was maintained quite efficiently. For the food which I ordered for my afternoon meal was Naanizza, Tandoori Mushroom Cheese Melt and Papdi Paneer Cheese Shots. For the starters i think the quantity was low, but taste wise they all were amazing! The Naanizza was a crispy yet soft naan with pizza toppings and cheese, the combination here was decent. The Tandoori Mushrooms were smooth as butter and truly they were mouth melting. With cheese inside them making them more tempting. The portion size was of 4 button mushrooms. The Papdi Paneer Cheese shots were served in shot glasses as 4 in one portion. The crispy paneer rolls were with dipped in mint chutney and topped with sesame seeds. We ordered two Kesar Lassis in the mean while which turned out to be refreshing and amazing! In which one was a Peda Lassi which was similar in the taste just the difference was it was topped with crushed Pedas, which made the sweetness deeper and the lassi thicker! For the Main course we ordered one plate of Chole Bhatura and one plate of Dal Makhani and in the main course I didn’t had any complaints in regards to quality, quantity or taste. Both the dishes were absolutely splendid. The Bhatura was a gigantic one which made our tired faces up with a large smile! The chole were medium spicy in taste and we truly loved the simple and basic piping hot Dal Khichdi. After our fascinating meal it was the time for desserts and we did ordered a couple including Rabdi and Amritsari Fruit Cream. The Rabdi was served in a small kullad (earthen clay pot/glass). The Rabdi was mind soothing, well who doesn’t like Rabdi afterall? And the Amritsari Fruit Cream was a fruit salad with diced fruits such as apple, pear, pomegranate, etc. with some fresh cream as well as whipped cream for extra sweetness. After a long long time we had one satisfying meal and we enjoyed our meal to the ends! I would highly recommend this place to all the ones reading this, dont miss out this place! Do visit i bet you...
