I was extremely sceptical when this restaurant was recommended as on par or better than other Japanese restaurants around the world like Zuma or Nobu. When you arrive at the Taj Hotel and finally clear security, you have the feeling you have entered a royal palace. Note the M F Hussein triptic painting hanging behind reception (a masterpiece). As you make your way to Wasabi, you can induldge in the Royal atmosphere of the hotel. Before you get to the restaurant, you cross the Taj Hotel Bar, a quaint yet buzzing room with individuals from all around the world. As you cross the bar, there is a spiral staircase with a glass lift that takes you to the Wasabi dining area. At first impression, there is a sushi bar, a teppanyaki post and a few tables dotted around. Nothing spectacular. Once you are greeted and shown to your table the experience begins. The waiters are extremely pleasant and polite and are fully attentive. The food is fresh and exquisite. Every bite is full of flavour and to my surprise was just as good if not better as the aforementioned restaurants. Presentation is on point for every dish and they create new Japanese inspired dishes. We had the change to try. A pork belly dish which is pictured. The meat melted in our mouths, spectacular. Interestingly, they serve a BBQ tuna, which you cook at the table on a black stone, also pictured. All dishes available were to the same standard as would be expected of Zuma or Nobu. The real trila came with the mains. The Black Miso Cod. Although full of flavour this was slightly overcooked leaving a burnt layer around the cod. It was extremely tasty and would have been just as good as any other five star dining restaurant around the world had it not been over cooked. The dessert selection is limited, but what's on offer is scrumptious. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

After reading many good reviews and recommendations, we came to Wasabi with very high expectations, but the whole dinning experience was very disappointing, I suggest if you are Asian or foodie who has been to other countries and tried Japanese food, don't waste your money here. We ordered 2 non-veg omasake, 2 soft beverages, 1 appetizer and 1 sushi, combination of omasake was a tragedy— heavy appetizers, everything was dipped in strong sauce, mayonnaise and Jalapeños on top, after thick starters they served light flavor nigiri sushi— your palate are already tired at this time, the mushroom rice and dessert are ok, but can't smooth our bad feeling, it’s the fusion Japanese cuisine that caters to foreigner taste, the whole dinner cost around INR 25,000, you will definitely have better options in Mumbai, especially Mumbai has bunch of fresh seafood can choose. Maybe because Wasabi is located in Taj Palace thus it’s so overpriced, but even more disappointed to have food of this quality under this shiny brand. And one more thing to note, you can’t even see gate way of India in the night, there’s only dark outside, they don't maintain the sights like others around the world.

My first real introduction to Japanese food. I am so glad we came here instead of going to my favourite Italian restaurant... We had sushi and a sort of white asparagus (you can tell I am a total newbie) with a really delicious gravy. A salad that the chef had made for the president of the US (I added mushrooms and it tasted Divine)... Am sure the president didn't get mushrooms with his salad. They surprised us with a totally decadent rich dark chocolate cake with hints of raspberry in it. It was my birthday and this was a brilliant lunch. We sat by the window and we should have had a view of the sea... But the building was undergoing construction so that was obscured. The music was horrible and they did shut it off for a few minutes when we requested... But put it back on... That was the only thing that spoilt a lovely afternoon out... But the food was so good, I couldn't give them a 4 star rating. It has to be a full 5! Am I coming back here? Yes. Most definitely!

Restaurant Review: Wasabi by Morimoto

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4 out of 5 stars)

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Wasabi by Morimoto, a charming Japanese restaurant located in the heart of the city. As a fan of Japanese cuisine, I was excited to explore their menu, and overall, my experience was delightful.

Ambiance: The restaurant exudes a warm and welcoming ambiance, with traditional Japanese decor and soft lighting that creates a cozy atmosphere. The wooden furnishings and intimate seating arrangements contributed to a relaxed dining experience. The background music was soothing and not too loud, allowing for easy conversation.

Service: The staff at Wasabi by Morimoto were attentive and courteous throughout my visit. The waitstaff was knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations, considering my dietary preferences. However, during peak hours, the service could be slightly slow, but it didn't significantly impact the overall experience.

Food: The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the food. Wasabi by Morimoto offers an extensive selection of Japanese dishes, from sushi and sashimi to various grilled items and tempura. I started with the assorted sushi platter, which was fresh and expertly prepared, showcasing the chef's skills.

The menu also features a range of hot dishes, and I particularly enjoyed the sushi and miso soup which were cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The miso soup was a comforting addition, and the portion sizes were just right, leaving me satisfied but not overly full.

Drinks: The restaurant offers an impressive array of traditional sake and other Japanese beverages. I tried a few varieties of sake, and each one was well-paired with the food I ordered. They also have a small but well-curated selection of Japanese beers and non-alcoholic options.

Price: While the quality of the food and service was top-notch, it's worth noting that Wasabi by Morimoto falls on the higher end of the price spectrum. However, given the overall experience and the authentic taste, it's well worth the occasional splurge.

Overall, Wasabi by Morimoto is a gem for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts. The restaurant offers an excellent dining experience with its inviting ambiance, attentive service, and delectable dishes. Whether you're seeking a romantic dinner spot or a place to catch up with friends over great food and drinks, Wasabi by Morimmoto won't disappoint. Just be sure to make a reservation, especially during peak hours, to secure your spot in this delightful...
