The restaurant (which is what I visited) is targeted at either Western or high-paying Indian customers.
While no eatery can be blamed for that alone, I found the lack of plain drinking water here very disturbing. You have to buy bottled water here.
I ate an omelette here, and the experience of the food while sitting so close to the sea was quite pleasant.
However, there is another incident that was quite unpleasant for me.
On my second day of stay in Mahabalipuram (I was staying in a different establishment), I was bitten by a dog that left a deep gash on my palm, with blood flowing freely from the gash.
I was on the edge of the sea when this happened, and by the time I managed to get back to the shore, blinded by pain, this was the first establishment I encountered.
I climbed the steps and asked for some immediate medical care, but to no avail. The pain was such that I don't remember the entire conversation, but I do remember being told to go back into the sea and wash my hand there.
I was eventually rushed to a nearby government hsopital by the owners of the establishment I was staying in, and got anti-rabies vaccination.
Kindly note:
The dog did not belong to Bob Marley Cafe and Beach House. Whether they could use the excuse "Not our problem" is up to you to decide. I was not a paying customer of the establishment when I approached them. I acknowledge that had I been a paying customer, I might have been treated differently. However, how that could happen without some simple cotton, antiseptics and other things, I don't know.
Now: Imagine staying or eating in an establishment that is unprepared or grossly under-prepared for medical emergencies. Imagine such an emergency rises, and you are told to deal with it yourself.
Final thoughts:
The establishment is in a definitely picturesque location, and the food served here is of good standard. (I personally think it is a tad bit overpriced, but that is my opinion. Please feel free to form your own opinion when visiting.)
However, the service left a lot to be desired. Especially with the non-availability of plain...
Read moreTravelling with a friend to the east coast of Tamil Nadu, I booked the hotel next door to this funky little cafe because I remembered it being a good place to hang out 6 years ago when I'd been to Mahabilapuram before. It has a great sign outside which promises more than it delivers though unfortunately. We had a beer on the first floor overlooking the ocean but it took ages to get served despite there not being many customers there. The tables were not wiped clean and it was altogether a bit of an overpriced disappointment which, considering its location could be a whole lot better. Fabulously located right on the beach overlooking the fishing boats, if they put more effort into the place it would be THE place to be. The guys there were fairly friendly but they've got a fat grumpy black labrador dog who growls if you get too near to him! I'd go again because of the view but probably only for a beer...which at 300 rupees was more costly than the cafes either side of it. Shame, because even the name makes you think it'll be a happening party type...
Read moreWe had gone to a birthday party and they were forcing us to order food.... They didn't give us time to process things right after we cut the cake we ordered some sides like french fries and thought we'll start with the main course and booze when the starters arrived but by that time the owner started yelling and all..... We apologised but received rude behaviour on the management side.... It not like we're going to cheat them we did pay 1000 for the reservations and just needed time to order....... It's very disappointing i didn't expect something like this to happen. I suggest please do be kind to customers. No offence. Please do take it positively and improve ur place so that we can recommend it to our friends.
Sir we left by 1 30 and we did take down most of the decorations you could have waited or maybe been more polite in your tone sir and I did ask you before the reservation can we stay from 11 to 2 you were okay with it. Pls sir i don't mean to offend you but it's a beautiful spot and id really like if you could do some improvements, again just...
