Kalo's Beach Cafe - Mahabalipuram — Restaurant in Tamil Nadu

Location : Excellent Cleanliness : Moderate Cost : Moderate First off, pics on the net are awesome. Probably the only place in that stretch of beach with such facilities - there are other buildings on the left and right but didn't seem to have balconies like Kalos offers. Now reality The balcony is still a hit. A nice cozy place to sit and watch the ocean while you can also work off of their decent WiFi. Cleanliness on the other hand (like few others have mentioned) is a question mark. Fans dirty - didn't feel like switching them on because we thought they'll throw dust all over the clean sheets on the bed. Luckily the dust is all glued to the fan so nothing flew. Balcony also not cleaned properly. Looks like previous gang that stayed ended up puking in the balcony which we were able to identify by the stains. The cushion in balcony was super dirty. We thought it was just wind and dusted it. Next day it was dirty again. Apparently stray dogs sneakup for cleaning the dustbins and use the comfy cushions for themselves - we stayed on 1st floor. Food - we felt was super expensive. 80 rupees for one coffee? No thanks - we stayed for three days and didn't want to walk back home without money for diesel. So we decided to order. Not from the only restaurants shown in Zomato (cause they're equally expensive) but from other hotels in town. They offer great food at reasonable rates. Overall a 3 star rating worth experience. Good because of the ease of access to beach and the view. Good facilities but needs to be maintained better.

Oh ya, and almost forgot. If only they can stop knocking on the doors 3 times a day consistently. To check the length of the door, again to ask if we want breakfast and again to check which direction the celing is. Phew 😅

I felt cheated as soon as I saw the place.The "hotel" is not a hotel rather it is a house with no front reception or anything remotely resembling a hotel. When I reached there all I saw were bunch of workers painting a rusted grill in the place and they said that this is Kalos. I started calling the owner immediately who chose to ignore the call and when the workers called him from their phone he picked up.. The place is near the Fisherman's colony and there is absolutely no road to reach the place than through some gullys. The front part of the hotel has a broken cement pavement or lack of it. It had litters and boats and there is no place to walk to the so called hotel. I lost my entire booking advance and he didn't even pay me a single coin back when I said that I cannot stay in this place. Went all the way to chill at this place after reading so much online and was really disappointed with the service and food. Ordered the golden fried calamari and butter garlic prawns and it was very bad. The calamari wasn't cooked , they fried it again and gave on request. The ambience and location of the space is spot on but the service? At the time we went there was noone at the cafe so all the service staff kept standing there and staring and it was so so so uncomfortable that we left as quickly as we could ,cutting down on our plan to chll and work there the entire afternoo. Managed to take a small clipping of all of them and this one man who kept staring and made it all the more uncomfy. We left as soon as possible coz we didn't feel comfortable there..
