Dakshin - one of the oldest South Indian restaurants in chennai. With few employees working there for last 25 years. I visited there to try their 30th anniversary special Thaali. Location - located inside crowne plaza hotel the official den of CSK team. Located prmoinently in TTK road, Alwarpet. Parking - ample parking space is available in underground. Ambience - the restaurant is highly influenced by the temples of South india. And you will get a royal feel inside the resto. The walls are adorned with tanjore paintings. Food - we tried the anniversary special non veg Thaali. Started with their 'vasantha neer' - a blend of tender coconut water, honey and lime. Perfect drink to start with. As per south indian tradition, they serve us with sweets first - Banana dosai and kuzhi panniyaram. Banana dosai is the one to drool for. Made from five varieties of ripe banana and roasted like dosai. 🍌🍌🍌👌👌👌👌 For starters we had the guntur chicken, Dakshin eral ( prawns) and vaazhaipoo vadai. 👌👌 Dakshin eral was the best here. Coming to the main dishes. They provide idiyappam, aapam, and parotta hot and fresh along with a set of 8 other side dishes. We loved the aapam from live counter. The main attraction is the naatu kozhi ammi masala - with exactly 30 ingredients to commemorate the 30th anniversary. Tasted so good. Also they have neer more ( Buttermilk) to quench ur thirst. And coming to dessert - we had elaneer payasam and mukkani ice cream. Both tasted extremely good. Mukkani ice cream is a ice cream made with Mango, banana and jackfruit flavors. And that's not the end. We also had filter coffee specially delivered to us in a unique style. Price - the price of non veg Thaali is 2499rs and veg Thaali is 1999 rs. The pricing is worth the ambience and the experience. Service - 😊😊undeniably royal. Not to forget the live carnatic music experience Rating them 5/5 for their 30 year long service with wonderful food Update - Recently visited for their street food festival - featuring street foods from four states - TN, Kerala, andhra and Karnataka. They again impressed us with their food and service.

Located in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Chennai, Dakshim is an elegant, high-end restaurant featuring flavors from all over the South Indian states. The Special Thali set menus were a great way to try out a bunch of different dishes, and unlike in most places, the thalis here came in a few separate courses. To start, there was a basket of papad crackers accompanied by five different chutneys: tomato, ginger, garlic, coconut, and tamarind. The first course of the non-veg thali came with “Iyer’s Special,” a sweet banana dosa and a savory adai dosa, prepared on a street food-style trolley; Kozhi Varuval, made with chunks of chicken coated in a red spice powder and fried; and Kozhi Rasam, a peppery chicken soup. The main courses then came all at once, beautifully plated on traditional dining vessels, and included three different meat/seafood curries: Kori Gassi (dark meat chicken in a tomato gravy); Yera Thokku (baby prawns with tomatoes and peppers); and Mutton Chettinad (bone-in mutton in a peppery gravy). There was also Poriyal (chopped gourd); Kai Kurma (coconut-based curry with mixed vegetables); yellow dal; Kathrikai Murungakai Kara Kozhambu (a tangy soup with drumstick and eggplant); curd; Chitrannam (curry leaf-flavored green rice dish); Idiyappam (string hoppers made with rice); and Veechu Parotta (layered flatbread). Everything on the thali was so flavorful and well-balanced, from the spicy curries to the earthy dal to the creamy kurma and cooling curd, but my favorite elements were the crispy parotta and the three meat curries, each of which had a distinct flavor profile. As if all this weren’t enough, lastly came an entirely separate dessert course: a bowl of payasam (a warm coconut pudding) and a scoop of tropical, three-flavored jackfruit/banana/pineapple ice cream. On top of the delicious, beautifully-presented food, the service and atmosphere were on point, and there was even live, traditional South Indian music being played!

Dakshin Restaurant, with its warm ambiance and authentic South Indian flavors, offers an immersive dining experience that transports you straight to the heart of South India. Located in a prime area, the restaurant immediately draws you in with its inviting atmosphere, combining traditional elements with a contemporary flair. The ambiance at Dakshin is both elegant and cozy, with rich wooden panels, traditional brass lamps, and beautiful South Indian artwork adorning the walls. The lighting is soft and warm, creating a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe perfect for both casual and celebratory dining. The atmosphere is lively, yet not overwhelming, making it a great choice for family meals or intimate dinners alike. The background live performance makes things spectacular. The service at Dakshin is friendly and attentive. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and eager to help guide you through the array of dishes. From the moment you are seated, the servers ensure you’re comfortable and are quick to offer suggestions when asked. We ordered sea food meals, appam, paya, biryani and parotta and everything was good.My friends were relishing on the paya and biryani and they were pretty happy with it. The jackfruit ice cream served for the dessert was top notch. Dakshin Restaurant is an excellent destination for anyone craving authentic South Indian food. With its cozy atmosphere, attentive service, and mouthwatering dishes, it delivers a top-notch dining experience. The prices are fairly reasonable IMO for a fine dineand for the quality of the food making it a great choice for both casual outings and special occasions. If you're looking for a true taste of South India, Dakshin should be at the top of your list.
