Step into Mai Malu Warung in Ubud, where memories of culinary enchantment linger, and the charm of fresh coconut water flows freely. The staff, once the backbone of the dining experience, remains a beacon of warmth, weaving tales of hospitality that echo through the years.
Picture yourself sipping fresh coconut water, the straw plunging into the coconut itself – a refreshing ritual that once epitomized the essence of Mai Malu. The allure of that natural elixir, combined with the attentive service, created an atmosphere that felt like a culinary embrace.
However, the winds of change have swept through Mai Malu. The once-magnificent dishes, like a symphony of flavors, have evolved into something more subdued. What was once a gastronomic adventure akin to a kid in a house of lollies now feels like a familiar stroll through a culinary landscape that has seen shifts in chefs and staff.
The heart of Mai Malu, embodied by its staff and the enchanting coconut water ritual, remains a source of fond memories. Yet, with new faces in the kitchen and dining hall, the symphony has taken on a different tempo, and the flavors, once soaring, now tread a more average path.
As you reflect on the evolution of Mai Malu, the nostalgia for the culinary magic of years past lingers. Perhaps the winds of change have not only brought new staff and chefs but also a different chapter in the story of this Ubud establishment. May the spirit of the fresh coconut water and the warmth of the staff continue to be the guiding stars, regardless of the culinary shifts in this...
Read moreI have been coming to Mai Malu for 3 years and is just like coming home! Putu, Wayan and family will always ensure you are comfortable, but still give you privacy. I always stay in the upstairs room which is more than spacious and comfortable (this year they even added a small bar fridge.. awesome!). The atmosphere is lovely with chirping birds, koi pond and the family (and spa gals) who are always happy/smiling/laughing. It's a super cool and friendly vibe, especially nice for solo travelers (like me). The price is RIGHT too! Breakfast included and some rooms have AC. The bed is super comfortable and the WIFI is really good (very important for me as I work on the road and also like to stream movies at night). The evenings are quiet, which is amazing, considering you are steps away from the BEST street for restaurants in Ubud. Cannot beat this location! Goutama Street has everything from thai, to sushi, to curries, fusion, raw food, cafes, you name it! You barely need to leave the street! The Palace and other attractions very close walking distance and the shopping on Hanoman is the best. Wayan also provides airport transport and attraction tickets onsite, one stop shop. Highly...
Read moreCitrus Tree B&B- Mai Malu is very homey. It only consists of three rooms for the whole home-stay that gives a local feeling of exclusivity. It has a very simple breakfast though. But being a fruit lover, me and my family appreciated the fresh platter of fruits that comes with the breakfast daily.||One downside of our stay was the outlets in the rooms. I understand that it could be the 'standard' outlet of the whole island or might be of the whole Indonesia. But perhaps it would be better for the management to make adapter easily available for the guests to use, especially for those who are in the business trip. Another comment is that it would be better if they put on signs for guests to keep their volumes down as consideration to other guests because the rooms are not sound-proof. We experienced hearing loud moaning of honeymooners on the room during our stay. We also experienced interrupted power for two nights straight every time we arrive in our room in the evening. It was only in our floor that we...
