I had a decent and funny dinner experience with my girlfriend here. I ordered kalbi beef with Japanese steamed rice which was nice. My girlfriend ordered their house roll which called something like Crispy Rice Cake roll which we later learned literally had “Crispy” mentioned as one of its ingredient 🤣.
My girlfriend she likes crispy spicy California sushi rolls which I guess why she ordered the menu. I tried hers and this is the first time where someone use rice cake instead of plain Japanese sushi rice in a sushi roll. This dish reminds us of traditional rice cake called lontong which makes the experience funny.
My gf mentioned that she was expecting a crispy rice cake as something on the outside of the rolls but instead there was just a rice cake with little to minimal crispiness. I guess either the menu naming is wrong or at least confusing for us. If you add some spicy peanut sauce, omelette, and some rice noodles you will get a fusion ketoprak which we both adore! Perhaps those ingredients are missing.
She took a picture of the dish and I hope she posted it as review here also 🤣
All in all we had fun, lastly the staffs are helpfully...
Read moreExcellent miso soup, decent edamame (needed salt but if you like plain it was good), spicy tuna on crispy rice was a good attempt but they needed to make the rice crispy on all sides because it ended up being gummy and I didn’t eat it which is an easily correctable oversight and would then be very good. Recommend ordering a side of eel sauce for it which puts it over the top to yummmmmy.
Wasn’t super into the black pepper beef but.. the chocolate cake was the best I can ever remember having.. ever. I would eat a whole one by myself if that wasn’t 1. Incredibly weird, 2. Likely to make me throw up, 3. Not going to be more calories than I need in 6 days. It’s stab-your-granny-and-climb-over-her-body to get a slice, kind of good. Chocolate cake all the way.
Will definitely go back and try some other menu items so I can bump up my review (and you know, eat more chocolate cake).
PS. The portions are big so I ordered too much (didn’t eat the beef, just took it away and my husband...
Read moreHave you ever tried sushi lontong? I have at the Nori Bali Ubud and it’s called Nori Crispy Spicy Tuna. I thought the crispy rice cake would be a rengginang type thing rolled within a sushi (it’s under house roll in the menu) but it was a whole lontong, fried with something that wasn’t crispy, topped with tuna that I couldn’t even taste. Also, I couldn’t find the nori (literally in the name) and contrary to the name, it was not spicy. They added a dollop of ketchup at the top too. It was a crime scene🤣
I gave it another try by ordering salmon nigiri. I thought it was impossible to screw up a salmon nigiri, I was wrong, the salmon was not fresh. What a disaster. My bad for eating sushi at a place that also sells hamburgers 🤣 on the bright side, my boyfriend and I laughed about it for hours after.
Skip this place. It’s empty on a Saturday night...
