TERRIBLE SERVICE.
We made a reservation since 1-2 weeks ago for Chinese New Year (25 Jan 2020) Dinner at 7.30pm for 8 people. On the day, we came earlier to the restaurant at 7.15pm and waited for our table. By 8 pm, we haven’t been seated so we asked the host to take our orders directly. After 5-10 mins, the host quickly directed us to our table while telling us “5 orang dulu ya” everyone was confused but still proceeded to the table. When we were about to sit, we realized that there’s only 5 seats, not 8. In 3-5 minutes, all the food that we ordered came all in once. But 3 of our family members couldn’t enjoy and still waiting outside.
Kam’s Roast is a HK / chinese restaurant. So they should be aware and understand that a lot of their dishes that they serve are FAMILY-STYLE not ala carte. Especially on CNY where everything is about FAMILY and being together!
We still asked politely if they could quickly seat our remaining family members WHEREVER just so we could pass the food to them quickly. They were hungry too. Not something that you’d expect from a michelin star restaurant + high price + additional service charge! Even our 60+ year old mom decided to eat very quickly to give her spot / chair to the others :(
After demanding a table for our remaining family, they moved us to a new and bigger table for 8. Food was just okay. We didn’t feel like eating anymore though after getting into such trouble they caused.
Kam’s roast should really understand the term of RESERVATION. If you accept a RESERVATION, then table supposed to be ready at least 15 mins BEFORE the reserved time. If you’re only accepting walk ins only for that day, then please do not accept reservation from your customers and then making it worse by only seating half of the party letting the other half...
Read moreMichelin star, this award is getting more and more of a marketing tool instead of the goodness of the food.
I was curios when it came out, hoping to get a taste of what I had back in Hong Kong. Honestly I've never tried the Kam's roast in HK but I've tried various other chasiu, Crispy pork and roast duck stalls.
When I first saw the menu, it was like holy molly, the price is very high for this kind of food here, as well as in hk. Still, trying to keep in mind that it IS a Michelin star I hope the price justify it's taste.
I ordered the toro chasiu (pork belly chasiu with more fatty goodness), Crispy pork, roast duck, rice, hainam rice and red chrysanthemum tea.
Well, it's sad for me to say the experience overall is truly underwhelming. The best dish of all is probably the toro chasiu, but I'd have to say you could probably get something similiar at a cheaper price. The Crispy pork is alright, the roast duck is abit of a dissapoinment. There's nothing special about their promoted duck and their portion, taste and price ratio is probably the part that makes it even worse.
Well, if the price is reasonable I would have give them a better rating. BUT, not all is bad so hopefully y'all read all the way here, as their service is quite good. Was trying to take my jacket off and they surprisingly lend me an assistance like those 5* restaurant. It's a simple gesture but it's still a good...
Read moreFood. The food was superb. The Hainan rice stood out with its aromatic, grainy, and tasty profile. Pairing it with the exceptional roast pork and the tender, juicy char siu was a highlight. The Hong Kong noodles with roast duck breast were also delightful, with perfectly cooked noodles and tender, non-smelly duck meat. The accompanying dumplings added a great touch to the noodle dish.
Service. The service was outstanding. The staff were attentive, friendly, and very helpful, especially during peak hours. They ensured we got a seat promptly. The serving time was efficient, with fresh food served quickly.
Price. While the dishes are on the expensive side, the quality and prime location of the restaurant justify the cost.
Place. The restaurant is not very large, but the guest turnover is quick, typical of a Chinese restaurant. Despite the small size, we didn’t have to wait long for a seat, thanks to the exceptionally friendly staff.
In summary, Kam’s Roast offers a delightful dining experience with superb food, excellent service, and a prime location, making it well worth the visit despite the...
