We were so stoked to stumble across this place on our last night in Ubud! We dined upstairs at a comfy corner table with cushioned seating. The lighting, music, atmosphere, and asthetic were perfect. We were given a complementary drink to start and nice cold hand towels, which were lovely and refreshing.
We ordered the Masala Dosa (which was HUGE) and came with delicious chutneys that were refilled free of charge. We'd rate the dosa a 20/10 if we could. We fell in love with dosa when we were India but have never had one meet the mark from anywhere else - until now. We also ordered the Lamb Rogan Josh and Pumpkin Salzi, both medium heat, which were delicious. They were both super flavourful, and the lamb was nice and tender. The curries came with rice and 4 amazing chutneys too (which we demolished and were given more free of charge).
We also ordered two cocktails, which were discounted as it happened to be happy hour. They were both beautiful (and strong, unlike some other local places we've been).
The service was outstanding, too. My mum even commented that the staff made it feel like we were the only people in the restaurant, even though it was really busy. All the staff were warm and attentive.
We were given a complementary ginger and turmeric palette cleanser before we left, which was such a sweet finishing touch. Very good value for money and a great overall experience.
By the time we finished at 7.30pm the place was packed, so I'd recommend coming early or...
Read moreThe ceiling at Persona restaurant has monkeys sitting blissfully, which I enjoyed a lot. The smell of the restaurant is delicious! Meeting our waiter, Triwan, made the food special; he asked about allergies, and I was touched that he cared since I usually had to inform the staff. He checked on us regularly in the packed restaurant. The overall service was quick and incredible! The dosa was huge, warm, crispy, cheesy, and delicious! The potatoes inside were soft, and we had sweet and spicy sauces. Between my family and me, it was gone in six minutes.
Soon after, we had the lamb vindaloo, which was thick, flavorful, and spicy, satisfying my lamb craving. The lamb was cooked perfectly, and the naan was lovely and warm! (Note: They will ask you for your preferred spice level initially.) The jackfruit onion masala had fooled me the whole night; I thought it was the chicken curry. Haha! We had a lot of leftovers between the three of us, so be aware of the generous portions! I will be coming back here as soon as I can. They also got us a treat at the end. He didn't tell us what the treat is, but it was buttery and left a wonderful aftertaste; I would consider it the best...
Read moreI ate here for the first time (it won’t be the last) tonight and it was very delicious! I had a chicken madras, tikki aloo, garlic naan and rice that comes with the curry, plus a house white wine. My friend had a rogan josh with the same side options. We were also given a second portion of rice for free. I asked for hot spice, though I didn’t find it very spicy at all, but it was very rich and full of flavour. The rogan josh was also very tasty. The naan bread was tasty, and the rice was decent. The tikki aloo I assumed would be a little crispier from the description, but it was very flavoursome and had a nice mix of what tasted like garam spices. The wine was decent, and overall the meal was a real treat, and perhaps one of the tastiest curries I’ve eaten in SEA. In addition, the staff here are friendly, attentive and make the place feel very pleasant. I definitely recommend a visit. Thanks so much Pesona Lounge.
Update: ate here a second time and it was somehow better again than the first. Lamb madras was amazing, masala chips were so so good, roti wasn’t the best but chapatti made up for it, and...
