A low-profile coffeehouse on the popular Jalan Goutama, close to the iconic Paradiso, this café is classy in an understated way. All beige, whites, pastels and wood tones, the design combines Balinese structures with modernist-minimalist interiors. The seating space is in two tiers - an outdoor area under a Balinese-style wood and cane mats conical ceiling with potted hanging plants and an aircon indoor setting with huge glass windows. I loved the antique whirring fans and the beautiful natural light streaming into the indoor seating area. The high ceiling makes both spaces very airy and comfortable even in the hottest weather. There's a range of coffees and teas, and a smaller range of baked goods. It was breakfast time, so I ordered a caramel donut, an almond-sugar croissant and a hot cappuccino. The service is quick, the staff friendly and the order turned out to be absolutely divine. The croissant was fresh and creamy on the inside. The donut was equally yumm. The cappuccino took the cake. The Indonesian arabicas must've been specially curated. Neither too smoky or too burnt, the flavour was rich. I couldn't help myself but order a repeat. Definitely a café I'd recommend if...
Read moreGood place to get coffee beans. A Barista there was very passionate and serious about what they do. I enjoyed the great conversation and a good cup of coffee. I've tried several coffee places to buy the coffee beans, and this is the only place where I can get both pros and cons of each coffee bean that they have. I found people here are very honest to run a good business. Ive got two packages of Ijen coffee beans after trying out the hand drip coffee.
Note: Do not get coffee bean from Tak su gallery with the tag of Ubud Coffee Roastery but get it directly from here. (I overheard the conversation when I was waiting for my coffee. one western guy -i guess boss ?- from Tak su gallery brought a bunch of coffee beans and requested to fake the roasting date tag so that he could take it back to sell the outdated coffee beans). Workers in the cafe seemed to be very confused and speechless. I REALLY HOPE that they didn't help this Tak Su...
Read moreVisited in 2019 and knew this place had promise. Why am I writing a review now in 2022? Because I never forgot my experience. With a brackground in roasting and a need to try new coffee experiences, Indonesia has been a constant ace in my deck for building flavour in both blends and single origin formats. This little place managed to bring a Kintamani natural bean to my attention which honestly had the profile of a Top Ethiopian Natural Guji - quite memorable with flavours consistent of those coffees utilizing African Raised bed techniques. All coffee is seasonal and this particular bean is long gone... I contemplated going back for another bag but ran out of time - quite a regret of mine once I got it home and started sharing it with like minded professionals. 2019 was a banger year for coffee varieties for me and this was part of that awesome experience. I am glad to see the pandemic has not pipped this gem...
