The girls of the wine club went to Ely's for our September meeting. We were seated at long tables with comfortable stools in an annexed area off the main floor. The lighting was flattering and the set up inviting. I especially liked the wine storage as a feature. Two glasses of wine with tasting amounts waited upon arrival. We were welcomed by the host and given an overview of the evening. They provided a tasting plate along with the wine. There was shellfish on mine which was rapidly replaced when I called out an allergy. I'm sure if I would have let it be know in advance I had an allergy it would have been managed in advance so that's on me. The host walked is through how to taste the wines and I learned a few things. He was happy to answer questions. He demystified wine and made it accessible. Unlike other wine events there was no snobbery just encouragement to enjoy ourselves.
They have tastings on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We'll be back for...
Read moreEly Wine Bar is what happens when a wine bar grows up, gets a personality, and learns how to party in three languages. You don’t just drink here — you go on a grape-fueled journey that starts with “just one prosecco” and ends with you passionately discussing your favourite vintage with a stranger in the toilets.

Equal parts sommeliers and therapists. They see you. They feel your energy. They know you need a bold red and a basket of bread before you even sit down.
We came in for a glass. We stayed for a bottle. Then another. At one point, we may have adopted a vineyard. I don't remember leaving — I think I was rolled out.
Ely isn’t just a wine bar. It’s a lifestyle. A slightly blurry, giggly, grape-scented lifestyle I...
Read moreI visited Ely as part of a large group so you may have a different experience to me.
It apparently has been recently refurbished and it looks really good. We were sat upstairs however the toilets are down stairs with most of the bar and the whole area down there looked excellent.
The food was really good with some things I had never tried before. I really enjoyed the food and thought the menu was good. Steak, duck, fish and a vegetarian dish.
We had a large group of 20+ and were split over 2 tables. The first table were getting their courses about 10 minutes ahead of the second table and I thought this was a bit strange. However that is a minor complaint and could have been due to the large group.
Overall I would definitely visit Ely again. I think it would be very good for a more intimate dinner and...
