We recently stayed at The College Green Hotel in Dublin, and although our overall experience was a pleasant one, there are a few reasons behind my three star rating.
First off, when arriving to the hotel, we found no staff on the outside of the building, therefore finding their valet service was a bit of a hassle. We ended up having to circle around twice, before we finally saw the very obscure ‘valet’ sign, propped up against the side of the building. Once inside, the hotel itself is UNDENIABLY beautiful (along with their rooms), and the staff was superbly profesional and welcoming. Check in was a breeze, and the gentleman at the front desk (Roberto) did an amazing job at giving us a run down of the place, and even went as far as booking us a reservation at the restaurant on site (Morelands, more on that in a bit) for that very same evening.
As with any other high end hotel, this hotel also offers a turndown service. If you can even call it that. All that was done for the turndown service, was the curtains to our room were shut. That’s it. We’ve stayed on other properties where the turndown service is a bit more than just that. ie: set out the slippers, prep the bed for sleep, etc.
Moving on to the restaurant on site, Morelands. This was probably where our biggest disappointment came from. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with the perfect warm lighting one would want around a quiet dinner. The food on the other hand was, to put it in the simplest of forms, not good. That’s not to say all of their food is bad, but overall, not the greatest. I ordered their 12oz ribeye, medium rare, and to say it was rare, is an understatement. I’m honestly not one to send food back, so I didn’t. But notice I did. The next morning we took part in their breakfast, which was for the most part, included in our stay. There were two items on the menu that came with a “supplemental” fee. One being the Eggs Benedict. Why they would feel the need to charge for what seemed like the laziest attempt at an Eggs Benedict is beyond me. We probably, should’ve stopped there, but on a late night we were hungry, we decided to order room service from their late night menu. We opted for their pizza thinking what could go wrong. It wasn’t just bad, it was late night gas station, stale pizza bad. And I get it, the restaurant is a separate entity to the hotel itself, but there has to be some accountability here. At the end of the day, this all adds into the experience a guest has when staying on their property.
In summary, would I stay here again? Should you? Sure. The location is AMAZING. Everything one who’s visiting the city for a few days would want to see and do, is literally within walking distance. But do yourself a favor, skip the meals there. They are absolutely not worth it.
Honorable mention: the Mint Bar is awesome! Super cozy, and a perfect place to end...
Read moreI don't normally leave reviews, but this was bad enough that I thought it was important to do so. We stayed at the Dublin Westin in early June (2022) for two days. Long story short, I would not recommend staying here. It made me hate Dublin. And dear god, definitely do not book this location via any 3rd party service.
It was easily the worst hotel we stayed at for our full 12 day trip. There were so many issues. The air conditioning in the room we paid for was broken, and for whatever reason, the room was uncomfortably hot (and I run cold), despite the cool weather. Even the hotel representative admitted it was uncomfortable. The only other room available was a significant downgrade. Please note: I noticed that the air-conditioning was not working in the new room either, but for whatever reason the temperature in the downgraded room was fine, so... fine, it's all fine. However, the front desk would not reimburse us for the downgraded room without first getting approval with the reservation staff, who only work 9-5 pm... you know, the time you typically want to be out exploring the city but now have to cut into your vacation to deal with issues. This was partly complicated because we booked through a 3rd party service (Chase rewards). The front desk staff said they could not make any changes to the reservation without first going through our 3rd party vendor. They did not offer any other consolation for the downgrade (free breakfast, maybe???), other than a generic shrug.
So we called our American 3rd party vendor (from Ireland) who then called the front desk staff 4 floors downstairs from us (in Ireland), who then transferred them to the same reservation agents (in Ireland), who never answered. We tried again the next day--same result. We tried emailing the reservation agents directly--no response. It's now been a week, and we still have not heard anything from anyone. Super.
In addition to blatant theft, we had a bunch of other, smaller, frankly stupid issues, that otherwise I would not bother posting about. The downgraded room was gross. I'll try and attach a photo, but the grout in the bathroom was all orange and mildewy. We had the hotel launder our clothes, and they lost an item. One of the cleaning staff decided to use our room to make a cup of coffee, and left their dirty cup, as well as a mess of water. Also, the other "clean" cup had gross stains in it. The gym had limited equipment.

Read moreExtremely disappointed with my recent stay. I always have choices when doing business in Dublin and choose to stay where I have previously had impeccable service and in close proximity to work. This trip did not compare.
Issue start at check in continued until departure. Staff too busy on arrival with ongoing events to assist with bags at entrance. Surely there should have been dedicated concierge or an awareness of customers, one elderly struggling with bags. Check in experience very poor. Room pre allocated but no recognition or awareness of status and despite booking rate with breakfast was advised by staff breakfast wasn't included in my stay and I could pay to add it. I questioned this and said even with my status this should be added free... There was reportedly no information in the system on my status to suggest this despite booking through the app. I was also certain breakfast was in my room rate. Thankfully I had confirmation emails to confirm the stay was with breakfast but yet on showing your representative this I was told it's because he just added it to my booking after confirmation of my titanium elite status! 3.After a rather frustrating check in experience, my room allocation was poor and could barely see in the dim lighting and couldn't relax in the room due to its configuration. I complained in addition about a smell eminating from the bathroom that was unpleasant but had to do this via the app chat function as I waited for 15 minutes on the phone with both concierge and service desk without any response. Ameneties requested prior to check in never materialised and we had one robe and two towels between us for showering that evening and the following morning. The chat complaint I commenced around 20 hours earlier was finally answered the next day after my travel companion complained we had no toiletries to use in the room.
Breakfast service was incredibly slow and poor. It was clear there were not enough staff and those that were present were visibly stressed and took almost 2.5 hours on our second morning to complete our breakfast course. Adjacent customers complaining about unimpressive breakfast ( it has declined since I stayed previously) and lack of presence of staff.
Whilst I understand this time of year brings additional pressures to an organisation. If I within my company failed to get basics right I would...
