The many positive reviews attracted my family to this restaurant just a few steps from our hotel, however we were extremely disappointed with the service. When we walked into the cafe upstairs, after waiting several minutes, I asked the barista where we might wait for a dinner table. He said ādownstairsā without looking up. When we arrived downstairs, a server impatiently waited to head up the stairwell while my 72 year-old mother finished making her way down the stairs. The host promptly greeted us with an immediate āhello, we do not have any tablesā. We walked in without a booking, so it wasnāt unreasonable at all that they didnāt have something right away. I asked when a table would be open and he said that there wouldnāt be one until 8:30 (about two hours later, also fair given that we didnāt have a booking) all the while not looking at us or offering to book us a table. He did not wish us a good night or day goodbye. We were clearly not welcome at this restaurant and sadly, I think itās because weāre American. I brought my elderly mother and my tween son, so I wonder if we simply didnāt meet their expectations? It was the rudest interaction weāve encountered in our two weeks in country. Iām well-traveled and comfortable navigating new places, but also humble because Iām new to every place I go, so I very, very much want to respect individuals, businesses, customs, etc. Iām extremely polite and friendly and we were treated horribly here. Weāre staying at a very well-established hotel nearby (not to sound like a pretentious jerk face myself, but this is a super special trip for my family) and while our jeans and ages might not have shown it on this specific day, I like to frequent highly-rated restaurants. Iāll be letting our hotel (and this Google audience) know about this experience. I hope the food is 1,000 times better than the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI can't speak for the restaurant downstairs, but upstairs, avoid like the plague. EVERYTHING is microwaved and the staff clearly don't want to be there. Rude and obnoxious.
I was there with my girlfriend a couple of weeks back and they overcharged me. The woman behind the till looked at the receipt after I handed over the cash (not noticing the overcharge). She clearly knew she had overcharged me. She said nothing. My girlfriend spotted this and complained. Then the woman behind the till said "Oh yes, I did overcharge you. I'll speak to my manager". After getting the money back that she was never going to tell me she had overcharged, not an apology or a shred of remorse. Disgusted.
To the owner/manager: You'd do well to hire someone that actually likes what they do, has experience and doesn't give your establishment a bad name. Why hire a hot waitress if all she does is makes people not want to come back. EVER. The decor of this place is awesome. Shame about the poor staff decisions. You've LOST a customer for life. I work close so you've lost more than the cost of a cup of coffee in revenue.
Good luck with your business,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis restaurant was recommended to me by many people so I thought I would check it out for a late lunch with an out of town friend. Its in a great location, next to the dart station, numerous bus routes and an easy walk from the National Gallery. Unfortunately I was not told that the actual restaurant/toilets is down a steep flight of stairs which I could not navigate. We sat upstairs at a small table in the back corner. The waiter was great, he was friendly & very attentive. The service was fast & the food was very tasty, the portions are quite generous so be careful about filling up on the great starters. I had the Butternut Ravioli for my main course, the sauce was delicious, some of the Ravioli edges were very tough to chew. The resturant down the stairs looks very cosy and inviting. I recommend you try this neat little restaurant if you can manage stairs. There is a small upstairs area with some tables if you can't. Reservations are a must as it is a busy place. It's one of the few nice restaurants in the area that is open for...
