I had read about Bread 41 and decided I would try it on my recent trip to Dublin. One day I was walking around and nearby and decided to try Bread 41. As I approached the bakery, I saw long line of people waiting to get in and order. Now for some context - I had just come from NYC and had a somewhat negative experience waiting in line at a well-know bagel shop, only to be disappointed, so naturally I had the same thought - is this place all hype and in the end not any better than other bakeries in the area? Not wanting to take a chance, I decided not to wait.

Fast forward a couple of days - I decided I would go the route of dining at the Cafe - only to be disappointed as there were no times available. And keep in mind the cafe is only open Friday through Sunday. Well, now I was determined to try this place and kept checking the reservations. As luck has it, a spot opened up!

Long and short - this place LIVES up to the HYPE!

I decided I would be a bit decadent to start and had one of their breakfast pastries and a cappuccino. OMG - it was divine. The pastry so light and flaky and just the right amount of sweetness. I am sure if I lived in Dublin I would weigh a ton as I would be at the bakery everyday overindulging.

I had such a hard time deciding on my main course. My server was fabulous and helped guide me through the menu. For my main course I ended up with the Mushrooms on Toast - Mixed wild mushrooms, mushroom ketchup, seasonal pesto, smoked almonds, fried egg, Hegartys cheese on pan fried toast. At first I thought - wow - there is alot going on with this plate. Sometimes I find chefs do too much when constructing a plate, but not in this case. It was a delicious blend of textures and flavors. I'd order the dish again in a heartbeat. My only complaint - and I experience this in other restaurants - I prefer my egg a little less done, where the yolk is a bit runny, creating what I call natures gravy.

Service was great - attentive, yet not overbearing, helpful and super friendly.

If you're in Dublin, make the effort and visit Bread 41!

Helpful Hints: You need to make a reservation. I saw so many people turned away as they were booked. There is a side door for the cafe upstairs so that you don't have to fight the crowds in the bakery. Come hungry! And take a box of...

My 1st time visiting their new restaurant upstairs. The menu is for brunch type dishes, all very tempting. I had the Eggs & Bread and it was so yummy. MoMo was our server and she was delightful, efficient and attentive without fussing. Her customer services skills are excellent. The restaurant is nicely laid out, mostly tables & chairs along with a couple of booths. The booths are a bit of a tight squeeze if you are on the larger side! Reservations required, book online. They are busy at lunch and the 3pm close time is strictly observed. There is an open spaced cafe downstairs and you can also purchase their fabulous breads.

First experience with Bread41, turned out to be a disappointing one.. Looked forward to making the journey specifically here all week.

Started when I asked for my coffee to go - to which I received a blank response ā€œwe don’t do takeawayā€ . ā€œIf you want to pay €5ā€ - [for their own keep cup]. I considered the total cost of the pastry, coffee + the deposit, I responded that I’d prefer to have my order here. Sincerely apologise if I’m mistaken - but on Instagram & social media in general - I was sure Bread41 done an orange to-go cup. Had I had known, I would have brought my keep-cup from home. One to note if a to-go cup is your preference. On the balance, I appreciate sustainability within business practice.

I was handed my croissant in a paper bag - not even as much as a napkin in the bag. For others around me - were provided with a takeaway box for their order.

Tried to get the attention of the server with my coffee - took longer than it should have. I waved politely over - their body language & blank stare toward me, wasn’t great… I understand if the fast paced environment was a contributing factor.

When I sat down to have my coffee - I tried again to get the attention of a server - so I could ask for a plate for my croissant. Whilst seated, I ate the croissant out of the paper bag & made the most of it. 🄐

Putting this review out there - for individuals such as myself trying to branch out & explore cafes + restaurants in 2024 on a solo level.

Cannot fault the beautiful coffee + pastry, music & overall aesthetic. However, there’s something to be said for basic kindness - & team providing an...
