AVOID THIS PLACE: I’ve been a regular in Nealons for close to a decade. I go in for an after work pint at least two or three times a week. I’ve been a regular through numerous managers; I have promoted the pub to tourists visiting the city, I have developed friendships with former managers and bartenders, I even participated in the campaign to keep the place open when closure was threatened, I have helped the staff remove aggressive customers, I have even defended this place to the local Queer community who have had bad experiences. But tonight is the last time I will ever step foot over the threshold of this iconic premises. After two months of dealing with awful service I’ve had enough.
I have never in my life been handed such a manky and disgusting pint of Guinness from an Irish bartender who doesn’t seem to know what a two part pour is. I have never in my life been treated so rudely and disrespectfully by a bartender. The female blonde bartender is miserably rude, obnoxious and sarcastic, too obsessed with twirling her hair and flirting with the other bartender to do her job (he is equally as useless at pulling a pint as she is FYI). It’s really not clever to slag me off to my mate who is standing beside me at the bar!!
I worked in the same industry for many years, and can understand how difficult it is - but if you’re not happy you should leave - rather than slagging off your customers when they turn their back, rolling your eyes, pushing them out of your way, slamming their drinks on the bar. I feel like it would be a surprise to the current staff to learn that the customers you are serving are actually paying your wages. Absolutely appalled at the service.
This place should have closed last year when the vulture fund took over. Turn it into an office block, be done with it. Because if the management continues this way there is no point. This iconic pub has had the same faces sitting at the bar for many years, but they’re all gone now. They’re sitting at other bars - and there’s a...
Read moreThe management and staff have completely changed recently with regulars concerned that Nealon's would lose something of itself – we too being customers of 20 years plus. I have to say I am surprised that new staff have come in and blended perfectly. I would like to give a special mention to the new management, Owen and Giuseppe, who are perfectly matched to the position with their gentle manner, friendliness and ease of service whilst fulfilling their role comfortably – professional whilst warm and welcoming. They are a very welcome addition to the tradition of the bar and we wish them a long, enjoyable future with us. Thanks to ALL the staff! Sound, professional, easy going. Best wishes guys. Keep up the great job you are doing. And for the night that’s in it, thanks Owen. We had a great night with you gentleman Gary and...
Read moreThe bar men downstairs should be thought how to pour a pint of stout properly.. plonked the pint glass under the tap poured it straight, and I had my pint back in under two minutes. The place wasn't even busy @ 9 pm on a Saturday night and I can see why!! And then he claimed this is how Guinness wants them to do it..then said it's the best pint in Dublin. Crap service and Crap pints.. Heineken was flat also.. Ps I'm a Dublin born barman myself so I know how it's done.. You'd get slapped here in cork for that type of crack. Ps the barman upstairs with the red tie and beard was a...
