I can't really say enough good things to give it more than one star. I don't like giving a place a bad review and I am certainly not in the business of giving bad reviews out of spite.
My wife and I went here for breakfast to have a "Full Irish." O'Neill's is easy enough to find, it has many entrances but make sure you find your way to the bar to order before sitting down. The woman behind the bar was quite rude and short with me even though I was trying to keep it simple. I ordered two full breakfasts, a coffee, and a tea. Asking for Almond milk for the tea led into a discussion about how there's dairy in the full breakfast and I should forgo those items. I just wanted it the way it comes thinking that would be easiest, but she was hellbent on making it difficult by continuously insisting that I should drop the mushrooms because it had butter. Whatever. She said she was starting the coffee and tea.
I told her where we were sat and went back to the table. A few moments later I went back to the bar to get the tray of hot drinks. She said it wasn't ready yet. Starting walking off, "You need to pay." Haha, okay no problem. Start walking away, "Here, take your coffee and tea." smh.
Bemused, I made it to the table without pissing off anyone else. The feeling of control ended soon enough. The tea kettle was so full of water that it was in the spout. So as soon as you tilted it like one degree it not only immediately came out of the spout, but out of the top where the lid was. Was she F*ing with us? This water was obviously boiling too. Not wanting our lovely waitress to have to hate me even more than she apparently already did, I did the cleanup.
While we sat and sipped the morning delivery of inbound kegs of beer and outbound empties was being performed on the sidewalk right beyond the exterior wall to where we were sitting. It's a lovely noise and one that can bring you straight back to Dublin no matter where you happen to be in the world. The loud clanging of steel on cobblestone didn't abate until we were about to leave. I can't fault O'Neills for this though. It's something that has to be done, and we could have moved at any time.
The wait girl brought us the tray of food over without any attitude, but the attitude was baked into the dishes before us. I've cooked better full Irish/English whatever you want to call it breakfasts in my life. The eggs were hilariously lacking whites and general size. The rashers and sausages were overcooked and dry. Mushrooms undercooked. Black pudding a bit rubbery.
I ate it all, but it was lacking.
Poor service and rude staff. Food underwhelming. All tourists...
Read moreMy son and I were visiting Dublin, and seeing relatives that we had not seen in a very long time, and one that we had never met. We went to O’Neills and the meeting was phenomenal. The character and atmosphere of the building itself spoke volumes about the city and it’s amazing people. We sat in a room adorned with beautiful windows and thick, luxurious drapes. The wood reminded me of a Barrister’s library, and it was gleaming and shining with the secrets of the many patrons who had tipped a glass or pint of Guinness there. The walls were adorned with the likeness of writers and artists and men are famous in Ireland for their crafts. You could spend many hours just looking at all of the memorabilia, but we did not have that time unfortunately. Many of us had the lentil soup, which was so good that we immediately wanted another bowl. The two men in the party had the stew and loved it as well. I had my 1st pint of Guinness and it was amazing. The food was spot on, the drink was grand and the company was perfect. Thank you O’Neals for an amazing afternoon. We hope to see you again soon for a much longer stay. If you’re in this town and you don’t pay a visit to this pub, you’ll regret it. Madeleine and Hunter from Maryland in the...
Read moreI've been going here for over 10 years as I loved it. Unfortunately, the last visit was the worst experience I've had, in any pub, ever. I had reserved a table for 8, close to the bar on the top floor. We arrive there, on Friday evening, as planned, sit at our table and were told only sandwiches were available. Whatever, we ll make do. Ordered some food and drinks. About 30 min in, no food yet, but had one staff come over and tell me they double booked (!!!) and that they were giving table we were sat at to another group! Had to get up, mid drink and just stand (to allow the other group to use the table). Was just dumbfounded, quickly trying to process what had just happened! UNBELIEVABLE! Very poor organisation and rude! We left, had to search for a pub available with no notice (just out of pandemic/restrictions mind you, so most still require reservation, especially for a party of 8 on a Friday night). Have been recommending the place for years, but obviously that won't happen again! Trust the recent reviews, I will avoid the place...
