Huge place do I'd everywhere else is full, the chance is that there will probably be space there. Location is great, and I do like the interior design. Not too loud. Smoking area available, quite nice.
If we order through the app we have to sign in and I'm not really ok with that as I don't want to receive emails every week or just disclose my personal email address. However at this particular Porterhouse we were able to order with waiters, but un Dun Laoghaire we had to order through the app.
Food is very meh, I had a burger and it was not great. Beer selection is ok but not extensive for the chain that the place is. I'd have expected more and better options. Cocktails aren't too expensive but then you realize that because the glasses are ridiculously small, especially for the Mojito where there is more ice than anything else. The vodka soda we ordered had soda for sure. We could not taste the vodka even though we asked them to remake it. Confusing.
Staff is nice depending on who takes your order. We had a young man that did not want to be there and made sure everyone he talked to knew it, so the experience was a bit tainted by it.
Let's not even talk about the toilets. Idk about the men but ladies bathrooms were chaos, to say the least. I am not blaming the staff for that -although they definitely should check it- but no toilet paper -or if there was, it was splashes on the soggy floor, no soap or hand sanitizer, and god knows what was on those walls (I'm letting you guess bit yes, it's disgusting). People are so damn disrespectful. And it was only 6pm when we...
Read moreFor a place called Tapped, they have a pretty pathetic selection of beer on tap. Half of their permanent taps are just nearly identical IPAs. Only two lagers, two ales, and two weiße beers. Not a single true wheat beer or true sour. They couldn’t even throw a craft cider in there. As for the guest rotations, they were pretty much all more of the same: just more generic IPAs and stouts, which is a real shame. The whole point of having rotating guest taps is to bring in something unique and interesting that may not necessarily be good for a permanent installment. Having rotating guest taps is an opportunity to bring in something really wild and out there, but for some reason they just decided to bring in things that are nearly identical to what they already have on permanent tap. Also all their craft cocktails are on tap, and as a person who has a background in the bar and mixology I would like to confirm your suspicions that tap cocktails are a massive scam. Cocktails are typically actually quite cheap to make, the reason for the price markup for a cocktail is because of the cost of labor, because the bartender has to take more time to actually make the cocktail rather than just pouring a glass of beer and wine. That is the only reason for the elevated price. Any place that tries to charge you €12 for a cocktail that they just poured out of a tap already made is making an absolute fool out of you. You can go to pretty much any other bar in the area and they will charge you the exact same price for a cocktail that the bartender actually makes. The...
Read moreIt was 5th March Wednesday. I ordered food and drinks and specifically asked for Roe&Co. The server with the black shirt and beard gave me rum and coke and said "Well I heard Rum and Coke". 20 minutes went by and I haven't got my whiskey so I asked them again. He said one moment. 5 minutes later he gave me something in a whiskey glass. I tasted it and it was like apple juice.
I walked up and said this wasn't the whiskey I had asked for (Roe&Co). The man behind the bar with the tan t-shirt said who gave it to you, was it the guy with the black t-shirt, you should ask him. Which sounded weird at the start. Then the black t-shirt guy came over and said it was the whiskey I asked and proceeded to go to the fridge, pulling out a non Alcoholic whiskey that looked nothing like the Roe&Co label. And nonchalantly said this is it. Then I said "Look, this is not the whiskey and it clearly says Non Alcoholic at the front" he then tried to find the whiskey bottle and then proceeded to give me a shot of it splashing everywhere.
No apologies or anything. I took the glass back to my table and looked back seeing them both giggling to each other behind the bar. Not sure if it is because I'm Asian or a foreigner but I received no ounce of respect since I sat foot in the restaurant.
I have lived in Dublin for 24 years and been to countless restaurants and bars. But this is the first time a waiter tried to blatantly mess with my order in hope I wouldn't know any...
