Nice pub, but seems kind of rundown since the last time we visited. I was here in 2015 and enjoyed the whiskey tasting. Coming back to Galway this year with my husband, I wanted to share that experience with him. It was only OK. They have not updated the whiskey tasting at all, though I am pretty sure that some interesting things have happened in the world of whiskey in the last seven years! They have an extensive list of whiskeys available. It’s a shame to see that their menu of whiskeys (there appears to be only one copy) is fairly dirty and falling apart. Also, while my experience of the servers had been very positive on my first visit, the bartender did not attempt to disguise his utter boredom. I guess it’s true what they say about not going back to places you’ve enjoyed as you will be...
Read moreI thought we were being attended to. Started a conversation with a younger bartender about their high end whiskey's (per recommendation) thinking we were going to order our drinks. Perhaps, it's a culture difference and they don't really care for people outside of their regulars. Went to order and he said he was in the middle of an order which he did not make clear, as he was conversing with us initially. We waited over 15mins with no further conversation or contact. Other patrons came in after us and they were being served by the staffed. We left and moved on, if you're not a regular it's really not a place for you. Do yourself a favor and skip the bigger towns (wouldn't call it a city) and try the smaller towns with better...
Read moreGood friendly service, and a top barman who kindly let me charge my phone, which was near dead. Pint was good, went down a treat. Local’s friendly, easy to have the chat here, good atmosphere was building up. Not a mad crowd of craziness, more like a good place to have a quiet chat in good company. The bar also offers traditional music over the weekends.
One of the oldest bars in the city, has been trading here since the late 1930’s and still remaining in family hands for three generations, the building itself has stood on William Street since the 17th Century.
A lovely pub, really enjoyed my pint here, another one to further check out when I am back in Galway...
