Oh dear! This was so disappointing. My wife & I make a point of travelling into Galway once a month to eat out. We had read some great things about Taquila and were excited to try it. We booked a table for 7pm on a Saturday. On arrival we were shown to a very small table by the window pretty much on top of the table next to it. The staff, both on booking and arrival, were very pleasant. The place has more of a student canteen vibe than a good restaurant but none of this would be a problem for authentic Mexican food. The starters consist of a choice of deep fried tortilla chips with guacamole, deep fried tortilla chips with sasla or deep fried tortilla chips laden with cheese and cream. We chose the first two. At this point we were informed that they were out of our chosen main dish, the Barbacoa. The starter arrived. Very greasy tortilla chips cooked in oil too cold to puff any air into them. The guacamole was lacking in flavour as was the Pico gallo. The salsa Verde and Chipotle Mayo were palatable. It wasn't great. We were then informed that the Al-pastor pork I had picked as a second choice was also unavailable. That left me with the option of a Fish or veggie taco, potato and chorizo taco or chicken. My neighbour at the next table, with whom I was nearly banging elbows, had the potato and chorizo taco. It did not look appetising. I didn't fancy chicken or fish. Very disappointed we paid €30 for two poor starters and a glass of wine and a Corona and left to find somewhere for a decent meal. I never really leave negative reviews and I would have contacted the manager privately by email first if they had posted one for me to do so but the Web site does not yet appear to be active. I'm sorry, Taquila, but this experience was...

To start i ordered the beef consumme, the flavor was unbelievable, for me its a must to start, our table also got the tortilla chips which are a great addition to pick at.
For my main i ordered the Barbacoa tacos, and they were a revelation. The meat was tender, perfectly seasoned, and paired beautifully with fresh toppings that added a delightful crunch and zest. It’s clear that the ingredients are top-notch and treated with care. To complement the meal, I went with a Mexican beer that I can't remember the name of, I had seen a review saying there was no Mexican beers but there was like 4 choices, most of which we'd never heard of so it was cool to try them.
The service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and efficient. The staff genuinely seemed passionate about ensuring each guest has an exceptional time.
Taquila strikes the perfect balance between authenticity and modern charm, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Whether you’re a taco connoisseur or just looking for a great night out, this place won’t disappoint. I’ll...
Read moreTaquila absolutely hits the mark if you’re looking for those bold, authentic Mexican flavors that you crave after visiting Mexico! My partner and I have been on a mission to find something that could live up to the tastes we experienced on our trip, and Taquila came through in every way.
This place has everything you’d want from a Mexican restaurant – a laid-back vibe, incredible food, and a super friendly staff that makes you feel right at home. The tacos are out of this world (the cochinita pibil is a must-try), and they’ve got some unique options on the menu that you don’t always see at other spots.
The margaritas? Spot-on. They’re strong, fresh, and pair perfectly with the flavors in the food. Honestly, everything we tried was bursting with flavor. Even the salsa and guac were next level – you can tell they make everything fresh, and it shows.
If you’re a fan of Mexican food, you need to check this place out. Five stars...
