What a great little find tucked away in an alley just left of the St.Andrea Cathedral (a.k.a Duommo d'Amalfi) entrance. Being on a typical Italian side street, away from the hussle and bustle of the main Square was just perfect. We did research a bit the google reviews to decide where to have dinner and finally decided on this restaurant called Il Chiostro. What a great choice. The staff welcomed us with a smile and throroughly explained the daily specialities as well as the menu. We decided to split a Lobster (around 450-500gr = 40euro) accompanied by julienne grilled vegetables like zuchini, carrots and fennel accompanied by a bottle of Brut of the Campagna region of course. What an incredible sight and taste. It opened our appetite and we decided to split another dish: ndanderi del giorno. This is a pasta similar shape to gnocchi but not made with potatoes. The sauce of the day was....guess what? Yeap Lobster and the sauce which included parmessan and some greens made it delicious. Closed up with two desserts made in house both delicious. Absolutely a smashing dinner I would highly reccommend.
PS. Returned for a second meal and again it was superb. Tried eggplant parmesan, scallops in a bed of pumpkin pure and a local pasta with pesto and anchovies. All not only delicious but presented in fine dinning spectacular fashion. I noticed people standing in a queue for the restaurant next door which I heard is excellent too, but I was not going to let traditional dishes distract me from.the twists of the young talented chef of Il Chiostro.

Read moreI ordered the scallops in a pumpkin puree from the chefs recommendation menu. They were tender and delicious and paired perfectly with the pumpkin purée, and the presentation was extravagant! A+ for sure!
I also got the baked potatoes as a side dish. But I would rather call them roasted baby new potatoes, and they were also fantastic. I would like to know how they are prepared.. so tender and moist. 🤤
My guy ordered the lasagna which came in a small round baking dish. The serving didn’t seem like much but it actually filled him up quickly. It was quite hearty with a rich smoky flavor. He said it kept getting better with every bite.
As an appetizer they brought out a thin bite size fried bread with a tomato sauce. Amazing! We also ordered a bottle of the house white wine and were very pleased. The service was great and atmosphere charming.
The best meal we’ve had in Amalfi and all for...
Read moreNice outdoor setting, tucked away from the main busy thoroughfare and in a little alleyway, so you don't have lots of people walking past all the time. Although you will get the occasional local coming through.
I ordered the octopus starter which was delicious. For my main course, I ordered the lasagna, which was unfortunately disappointing. The lasagna had a lot of liquid in it, and A LOT of cheese. Some people might enjoy that, but it personally wasn't for me. The layers of pasta and meat in the lasagna completely disappeared, and it sort of turned into this thick cheesy consistency. Every single mouthful I took felt like it was filled with stretchy cheese, and it made it hard to get my fork or knife through it to scoop up anything else in the lasagna dish.
I'm sure their other dishes may have been better, but unfortunately the lasagna was a...
