Walther's — Restaurant in Bolzano - Bozen

This facility from the outside looks very nice and appealing. It has terrace in two parts, and is situated on a nice square. Too bad that the upper part of the outside part was for some reason closed, so we were offered a table inside. But inside, there is no air conditioning. Which is a problem when it is some 30 degrees C outside. Anyway I take responsibility for accepting the table inside, but a I have foolishly thought (I should have asked) that the AC will soon be on. I was wrong. I found out when we were leaving that the facility has no AC. Maybe that is ok for winter period (I hope it has heating) but not for summer. Because it was very difficult to focus on the food when it is 30+ inside. But I need to correct myself, there is a portable fan inside. Not sure is it just circulating the hot inside air, or is it a proper AC, but the problem is that the waiters chose to point that fan towards only one separè, I mean one table where a group of clients from an Arab country were sitting, and this deprive the rest of the room of the only source of fresh air. So one table was decided to be preferential guests (some 8 people) while the rest, about 15 guest, in the rest of the dinings space can suffer because they are not so appealing to the waiters, or I suppose the waiters do not expect big tip from us. To me, this is quite unprofessional, a beginners mistake or simply short sighted and greedy. Food - nothing special, still I gave it 3 because it is eatable. I had Wiener schnitzel and I can say that it lacked taste. They do overcompensate on that by the size of a portion and I have to say the food came very quickly to the table. I would compare this place with a plethora of similar places that use the fact that they are in nice location, but cut back on food quality and service. I will not go here ever again, nor do I suggest it to anyone. There are many other restaurants that have better price performance ratio, and where the waiters are more...

I rarely write reviews, but my experience here was so unprofessional and disrespectful that I feel obligated to share it.

On my first visit, I was told I could not be served unless I ordered a pizza. There was no flexibility, no customer care, simply a refusal to serve me unless I complied with their condition. It felt less like hospitality and more like being forced into something.

I decided to give them a second chance, only to be treated even worse. When I asked for a table, I was told in a rude, dismissive tone that they were “full” and I would need to wait more than an hour. While I waited, another person walked in, skipped the line, and was immediately given the same spot I had been told to wait for. When I questioned it, they brushed me off again with the same rude tone, saying they were now “full” and would not accept my reservation at all.

The entire interaction left me with the strong impression that I was not being treated fairly, possibly because I am not Italian. Regardless of the reason, hospitality businesses should never make a guest feel excluded, disrespected, or unwelcome.

If you value respectful service and fair treatment, I cannot recommend this place. There are many restaurants in the area that understand what hospitality truly means, unfortunately, this is not...

Wir wollten gut zu Abend essen und fragten Dr. Google. Dabei wurde uns das Walthers empfohlen. Es gab in den Rezensionen allerdings auch einige kritische Stimmen – waren diese berechtigt? Ich wollte es herausfinden.

Service: Leider bestätigten sich einige der kritischen Bewertungen. Es ist unerklärlich, wie sechs (!) Kellner bei nur wenigen Gästen im Außenbereich (durch einen Regenschauer war ein Großteil der Bestuhlung nass, deshalb saßen nur wenige direkt am Haus) es schaffen konnten, uns nicht zu bedienen – und das gleich viermal hintereinander.

Die Kellner standen am Eingang, unterhielten sich angeregt, machten Witze und schienen völlig vergessen zu haben, worum es eigentlich geht: um die Gäste! „Don't touch – hahaha.“ Wir standen am Eingang, zwischen den Tischen, und mussten selbst fragen, ob wir uns hier oder dort hinsetzen dürften. „Don't touch – hahaha.“ Dann saßen wir rund 15 Minuten – keine drei Meter vom Eingang entfernt – und warteten auf die Speisekarte. Dabei war es wirklich nicht voll. „Don't touch – hahaha.“ Immer wieder versuchten wir, auf uns aufmerksam zu machen, aber die Kellner waren mit ihren Späßen beschäftigt. „Don't touch – hahaha.“

Dann betrat plötzlich der Chef die Szene – und sofort war Schluss mit lustig. Die Witzeleien verstummten abrupt, die Kellner wurden plötzlich geschäftig. Sein geschultes Auge entdeckte uns sofort, ohne dass wir uns bemerkbar machen mussten. Sekunden später stand ein Kellner mit aufgesetztem Lächeln am Tisch: „Was dürfen wir Ihnen bringen?“ – „Wir hätten gerne die Karte. Geht das?“ Ja, die Karte kam prompt.

Doch kaum war der Chef wieder verschwunden, ging das Spiel von vorne los. „Don't touch – hahaha.“ Weitere 15 Minuten später konnten wir endlich bestellen. Danke, Herr Chef, fürs rechtzeitige Wiederkommen! Das Essen kam dann auch relativ schnell.

Vielleicht hätten wir direkt Dessert bestellen und gleich bezahlen sollen – denn die "Don't touch – hahaha"-Nummer ging ununterbrochen weiter. Der Service war insgesamt zäh. Wenn der Chef nicht da ist, machen die Kellner offenbar, was sie wollen – nur nicht das, was sie sollen: die Gäste bedienen.

Ambiente: Direkt am schönen Hauptplatz saßen wir draußen und konnten dem Treiben der Passanten zusehen. Leider wurden wir von besonders frechen Spatzen „unterhalten“, die sich offenbar an Gäste gewöhnt haben. Sie setzten sich auf Stühle und Tische und bedienten sich sogar direkt vom Teller – das war eher lästig.

Speisen: Die Pasta war gut, die Pizza war gut, der Speckteller war gut. Wir können das Essen mit gutem Gewissen empfehlen – gute, feine Küche!

Parkplatz: Unbekannt.

Toiletten: Sehr sauber.

Fazit: Hier muss man die Kellner regelrecht „an den Haaren“ zum Bedienen ziehen – und die Spatzen von den Tischen vertreiben. Das Essen war wirklich gut – deshalb kommen wir wieder. :)

Ich versuche stets, eine faire und ehrliche Bewertung abzugeben, so wie ich es an dem jeweiligen Tag erlebt habe. Mein Ziel ist es, das Erlebte in einer lebendigen, greifbaren Erzählung...
